his real name as mentioned in the Quran is Iblis which is the primary devil in Islam.
Iblis was a Jinn, a creature made of smokeless fire by God. Iblis disobeyed Allah and was expelled from the grace of Allah. He was later sent to earth along with Adam and Eve after having lured them into eating fruit from the forbidden tree, although in this role he is always referred to as ash-Shaitan. He was condemned consequently by God to Hell. He replied with saying that he wanted to bring the inhabitants of Earth down with him, and God, to test Mankind and Jinn, allowed him to roam Earth to attempt to misguide others.
He tempts humans through his whisper (waswas, "he whispered") of sinful ideas in their head and false suggestion (haiif). In the end, it is believed, he will be cast into Jahannam (Hell in Islam) along with those who give in to his temptation of sinful ideas and disobeyed God's true message to mankind (Islam), while those who successfully try to follow a righteous path will be rewarded with the pleasures of Jannah (Paradise or Heaven in Islam).

Well there has to be a balance in everything. So for those who belive that god is a cheerleader for everything good there has to be a cheerleader for everything bad. That is satan. No more no less. Satan is an easy scapegoat for the hearts of evil men. The deads that people just can't imagine another person being capable of. So it is much easier to belive that these people were tempted by something of pure evil and cunning. One who relishes in the suffering of the innocent. Evil is nothing more than the insticts of animals that has evolved with humans. We have a tendancy to, despite our wonderful achievements, develope terrible devices for otherwise wonder capabilites. God and Satan are a part of this. God and Satan have always been the names for the things that effect our lives that most. God, obviously in charge of all of the good things that have, or will ever happened. Satan, of course in charge of everything bad.

Satan was the Cherub angel Lucifer, his name was Lucifer before he was cast out of heavan. Satan is the prince of the earth. He wants to get back into the third heaven where God the Father is. That is why everyone else think they will go to the third heavan. The bible clearly states that heavn will be established on earth.
And yes no matter what your beliefs are the bible is the way to find out what is to come.

The Bible teaches us that the angel who became Satan(meaning Resister)the Devil(meaning Slanderer) was at one time a perfect angelic Son of God.,who started to envy the worship Jehovah was receiving and tricked the first human pair into disobeying God.From then on he became Satan the Devil,a demon in opposition to God.

Doesn't matter what I "want" to believe, I choose to believe the Scriptures. He was Lucifer, second only to God in power. That wasn't enough, he wanted to be God. Sorry, job taken. He rebelled against God, and was cast out of Heaven, along with the angels(demons) who supported him. He is the enemy of God and man, and will have as his final place, the lake of fire.
Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Satan is once an angel of God but he rebelled against God. He want to take the throne of God so God threw Satan and Satan's supporters to hell. Satan and his supporters are called "fallen angels." So, Satan is the worst enemy of our lives. He is the antagonist. He wants to take us away from God.

If there is good, there is evil. Our Bible says that satan was also an angel, before he made a DECISION to be equal to God. Read the Bible. It has all the answer.
