I have a country-ish accent, but not like one of those annoying country singers. I would like a british accent, although I would eventually miss my own.

Isn't is strange how so many people say 'I have no accent'! I am British and (of course) I 'have no accent' (meaning that, if I do, it's the generic 'southern' accent of Britain, rather than a regional one.

Americans, especially, seem VERY happy with my accent - I can't understand what it is about it that makes them go all weak at the knees (well, some of them)!

If I were to adopt another, I think I like the southern Irish accent the best with Yorkshire Dales coming a close second.

To a certain extent it helps to speak in the language of the people you are talking to but without compromising one's own accent or attempting a pastiche of theirs. It is more to do with rhythm and music than anything. Certainly to try to copy vocabulary and syntax and vowel sounds is outway rude!

What I ABSOLUTELY HATE is when one speaks to a singer with a nice English accent and then they get on stage and produce the most dreadful whining sound that would send all the whales in the mid-Atlantic diving to the bottom!

Well if you speak two differing languages, you can speak with two different accents, for example, I don't speak Arabic with an English accent or English with an Arabic accent. You can learn to speak each language in its own accent.

I have a British accent and wouldn't want to change it. The love of my life has an American accent and I wouldn't want to change that either.

I agree that it would be fun to have a different one for a change, but I'm happy with my own.
