My next door neighbour is an indian man who has about 6 of his relations living with him and his family. He is a nice guy, jealous type but reasonably decent. He is claiming housing benefit for all of them eventhough they all work. I am in a bit of a quandry. It would be wrong to say we are good friends but all the people living there are so unfriendly. They are quite unhygenic and very loud. I am privy to a lot of information as my neice works for the local housing office. What do you think?

Just to clarify a couple of points. They are all claiming benefits as they are all listed as having seperate Bedrooms. I am going to report them as they very unpleasant people and not the type I wany my son coming into contact with. My neighbour and his wife have 3 kids of their own plus 6 more adults in their house. A 3 bed semi. Having spoken to my neice to double check all the facts are correct I have set the wheels in motion. Sorry if that annoys anybody. I dont care if he knows it was me. If any of you knew me you would understand why I have no fear of reprisal. Thanks for all your input. I have made my decision.

This country is on its knees, from being used and abused by this sort of action, report them! You do not have to give information on who you are or how you know, simply say what is happening and leave it up to the authorities to deal with. Can you imagine just how much it must cost this country each week, let alone each year, they are closing homes and hospitals because we cannot afford to give the care to people who need it.

THIS GUY CAN AFFORD TO BE NICE - THIS COUNTRY CANNOT.

Actually you should be very careful if you try to report this. Some Financial services DO allow a family to hold a job AND collect whatever financial aid they offer. There is a limit to how much can be earned before the service is halted. Are ALL of the family really working or are is it just a couple? Is there anyone with a form of disability... be careful here as some disabilities can't be seen! Sometimes the jobs are so low in wages that financial aid is still sought. Also if they all work are you sure it is every day? Some may be only doing a shift work (ie working only a couple nights/days a week).

There are a lot of reasons why some people appear to "get away" with it... while others really are "breaking the law" so to speak. Be sure you know all the facts before jumping the gun!

Are you sure your niece has her information correct? Firstly, if it's him that's claiming housing benefit, that benefit does not go up depending on how many people are living there. Secondly, they can't ALL be getting housing benefit because a) It's impossible to claim housing benefit if your landlord is a relative and b) they'd all have their own homes!

The question is, how does any of this affect you? No, your taxes aren't any higher because they're claiming. God knows what your taxes buy these days but you turning your neighbour in isn't going to affect them one bit.

And, if they're a nuisance to you, ratting on them isn't going to get rid of them either - they can all still afford to live there seeing as they're all related and all working.

And if there are six of them there, it can't be the most comfortable of living conditions. How is making their situation worse going to help you or anyone else. Leave well alone.

Put it this way, if you're in full time employment, (in the UK), you are paying for them, at least their Housing Benefit.
Why don't you just go home on a Friday night and just simply give him your wage packet???
Report them, of course he is nice, and reasonably, after all how else could he pull the wool over peoples eyes.
Report him!!!
He will never find out it was you.
Why do you think that we pay so much in tax?
It's because too many of us know about system dodgers , but do nothing about it!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want something 'get off your ar*e, and go out and earn it!!!!!)

If they are working and claiming benefits to which they are not entitled, they should be reported.

Saving the taxpayer some money - they should stop taking advantage of our welfare system.

REPORT them. PLEASE. They are obviously not going to become destitute if they are all working so it won't harm them - it will harm the taxpayers if nothing is done about benefit cheats.

Of course, you have to be sure of your facts - but the the DSS will investigate further I am sure.

Go ahead and report him if you think he deserves the fines and jail time that he'll most likely get. Also be prepared to explain how you had access to his personal financial information-- you could probably lose your neice her job.

Your taxes are probably supporting his whole family.

Call the health department if the place is unclean.

Call the family and childrens services if the children are in danger.

Call the cops if the noise gets out of hand.

If you report them be sure and not give your name. Because the social service does give out the name of the person reporting them. If he thinks you did it I can tell you he will NOT be a nice guy any more. You may end up injured or dead.

Yes I would go to a pay phone across town and report him.

The money he's collecting is money that other really needy people aren't getting because of budget restrictions etc...
If you know someone who can look into the matter, have a word with them.
