Constant scratching is a sign something is wrong. It could be an ear infection or more likely ear mites. Mites are tiny little creatures that are constantly chomping inside your cat's ears. If you look inside your cat's ears and see a very dark substance, similiar to coffee grounds, it's ear mites. Untreated ear mites can become serious and threaten the overall health of your cat. The glassy eyes could be another sign that your cat's health is being effected by the ear mites.
A visit to your vet who will prescribe medication is a simple fix to put your cat's health back on track.
Oddly enough I had a cat jump from a second story window, she's a calico tabby, fortunately she landed safely with no injuries. This happened as I was installed a new replacement window.

not sure about the jumping out of window thing and the glassy eyes but he could have ear mites or an ear infection. If this is a serious question I would take your cat to the vet to rule out something very wrong medically

no its not normal. he probably has EAR MITES and should be seen by a vet asap.I don't know about the glassy eyes, my cats eyes are glassy sometimes but that's because of the way the light shines on hem. Jumping out a 2nd floor window I'm sure isn't a suicide attempt, he probably saw something outside that he wants to catch or see. Good Luck

It's normal for cats to scratch their ears continuosly, it's also normal for cats to have glassy eyes, this happens when their eyes reflect the light. Cats aren't afraid of heights unlike humans, but it's not normal for a cat under the age of 2 1/2 years old to jump out of a two-storrey window.

It sounds like he probably has a severe case of ear mites.
As ear mites move about and feed along the cat or dog's ear canal they create substantial irritation and subsequent inflammation. The mites feed on tissue debris and secretions from the ear canal lining. With repeated irritation, the ear canal thickens and debris builds up within the ear canal. This debris, caused by mite waste products, dead tissue and fluid resembles coffee grounds. In chronic (long term) cases of ear mites in cats and dogs, there often is secondary bacterial and yeast infections present that complicate the treatment and create even more stress on the animal.
Generally, ear mites do not break the ear drum. However, in the presence of infection and with severe enough affliction with ear mites, the ear drum can be penetrated. When this occurs, a very severe middle ear disorder can result where the animal can loose balance, become disoriented and have severe physical signs of trouble.
Please get your cat to a vet for treatment.

No, the scratching is not normal.
Kitty probably has ear mites.
Ear mites are easily treatable, and they'll make kitty miserable until you ger rid of them.
Get kitty to a vet for a thorough ear cleaning and a prescription for some medicine and instructions on how to use it.
I dunno about the glassy eyes. Maybe the mites are making him crazy or keeping him from sleeping.
As for jumping out the second story window, I've known cats who would do that just for fun.

check the ears. If they look like they have a brown substance then this a big concern...ear mites. left untreated the mites can progress to the brain and be fatal. Get the cat checked by a vet. I had a cat who had this condition and there are drops but the most important thing is to get a check so vet can clean the ears.I got the ears cleared up by a vet and then put drops in every week and she was fine. Good luck.

It sounds as if your cat has a mite infection, a quick trip to the vet will sort your cat's ears out. As for the glassy eyes it sounds as if your cat has cataracts, just like old people get, again, a trip to the vet is what is needed.

No it is not normal for a cat to scratch its ears all the time. It sounds like your cat may have ear mites. They are too small to be seen by the human eye. The condition can be taken care of very easily with medication that you can get from your vet. Please bring your cat into a Vet. ASAP. The poor thing is suffereing and in pain.

I'm sure it might not be as bad a brain damage..but you should contact a vet as something such as mites, fleas, or an ear infection can cause serious discomfort and irritation for your cat...fleas aren't good for you either...it can cause for your cat to maybe become death if it spreads to their eardrum...
don't give up on him like some idiotic person has said... all he/she needs is love and CARE!... so make him scratchfree..
xx
