If the economy is so good, why is it that there are so many people without hope?
I noticed that whenever things get bad, the most vulnerable part of our population is affected first: they are like the canarys in the mine shaft. The dispair, hopelessness and then the violence will touch other groups: Random killings might victimize a person in a higher socio-economic group as he or a family member is just walking down the sidewalk or riding in a car on the freeway and happen to get in the way of a bullet or police chase.
So when bad things happen to our neighbors, it also affects us in many ways. More cops won't solve the problem. It's the economic conditions and the poor are getting poorer while the rich are getting richer in America so I don't see it turning around soon with good jobs, meaningful employment training, good affordable housing, food and healthcare for all. Because we live in the same community, when good things happen to others I notice our life is better too.
Violence produces more violence. We need heroes to decide they will not accept it under any circumstances -- even if it means no death penalty for a killer of your own family.

The concept has merit, no doubt about it. It goes a long way to add another validation to Darwin and his theory of natural selection.
It's the collateral damage that's hard to manage. One thug shoots 'at' another thug, misses, and hits a child or passing innoncent. This could be remedied by better training of course. Thug shooters could be required to spend a certain amount of hours at the range per month and qualify twice a year with the stolen gun they carry. Certification could cut down on stray rounds hitting unintended targets. But funding is a problem.
Nevertheless I admit that when I hear the news of one homey doing another homey, it doesn't cause me any pause in celebratory guffawing and high fives. I'll always know a quiet appreciation of it.

Sounds like someone needs to take “Ethics 101” and rethink the situation a little more. Murder is by definition, a crime. It is a crime for a reason. If you require that to be explained to you, an ethics class is only the start of your needed education.

I say load all of them up, put them on a bus take them to the desert, and have a old fashioned shoot out. That way no one who is innocent would not get caught in the cross fire.

EVERY life is worth something. Everybody has a life and most people have families. If somebody dies, it doesn't matter what type of a person they were--people will be badly affected by it. Murder is a SIN and it is WRONG.
