In my experience I would recommend TLC (tender loving care) and maybe a couple bone treats to entice him to go outside, sit with him once outside and calm him by petting him and talking to him reassuring him that its 'okay' and nothing to be afraid of outside. You may even have to gently force him to go out at first and then show him its okay, sit on the grass with him and pet and talk to him and tell him to 'relieve' or 'go potty' and make his outside trips brief at first and lengthen them over time. Hope this helps a little.

I have the SAME exact problem in my 3 year old and my 9 week old puppy. The puppy (basset) is small enough to where I can carry him outside and then the 3 year old will follow right along behind. I have to walk out with them and stand in the grass and coax them and tell them "ok.. go potty.." and they'll go as long as I'm standing right there next to them... then right after they've done their business, I quickly take them inside and praise them verbally and give them each a treat. Do this OFTEN so there's no more messes in the house and your pet will soon learn to associate that if they go to the bathroom quicker and just "get it over with" then they will get praised and go inside faster.

Also, make sure YOU are excited about going outside. Because then it makes them think "ooohhh.. ok.. well if she's excited, it must be a good thing.." and then your pet should be more willing to go.

Hate to tell you this but........
Get an umbrella and bring him out of the house. Stay outside with him until he actually goes. After he goes, act like he just gave you a million dollars!!!!!! Cookies and loving... the whole nine yards. When you bring him inside after being out in the rain, get a towel and wipe him down. I know he might not look wet but the massage type of feeling is another reward for him. He will learn to associate going out in the rain with a good rub down!

Hope I helped and Good Luck!

He's terrified, poor thing. Don't force the issue, put some newspaper down in the bathroom, hopefully he will use that when it's raining outside. Try again when the weather's better. He may have been traumatized by a thunderstorm.

Get his leash and put it on him. Next, act confident, calm, and assertive. Make sure you dont give off any bad enegy. After he's on his leash, walk sort of fast towards the door and open it. Once you oppen it walk out like he wont stop either. If he does which he probably will, make sure you dont put any tension into the leash. Just keep walking forward no matter what and just take him out for a walk like its a regular day. Make sure you stay calm the whole time. Dont get frustrated when he refuses to go out. Just keep walking. Once he sees that your fine and not scared, he wont be either. Good Luck!

Vets have medications that calm dogs down from storms. As for rain not storms, I would pick the dog up and carry it out to an area where I want the dog to go. I had my dog trained to go behind the tree only. A piticular area helps in training, that way you don't have to worry where to step in your yard after dark!

The first few times I would have to go outside with my dog when it was raining....she would sit at the door for a minute and watch me, and when she finally realized that the rain wasn't hurting me (I guess) she came right out....it took several times of doing this, but she will finally go out in the rain now. I also started spraying her with the waterhose on dry days when I first got her...you have to start out slowly with doing that....let him lick the hose and the nozzle, spray lightly for him to drink, and build up to actually spraying his body, but it helped my dog. She loves the water now....rain, pond, hose...it doesn't matter. Good luck.

put his food outside.. and leave it there he will soon go out!
if it doesnt work..
[dogs get jelous easily]
play outside and have LOTS OF FUN.. this will pusuade him to follow and see that outsides not bad..
do what you usually do together with other people or otherdogs.. [only this might make your dog hurt the one your playing with...
pitch a tent outside and sleep there if your dog usually sleeps in your room..
but if you have money to spare take him to a psycaiatrist [sorry for the wrong spellings] and give him therapy

i hope you and your dog have fun times OUTSIDE!!
