i'm not saying how i feel about the issue one way or the other, but when people say, "illegals" instead of "illegal immigrants"- to me, it makes it sound like the person's very existence is somehow illegal.

i thought the mexicans were supposed to be the "lazy" ones- but americans seem to be too lazy to vocalize an entire phrase, rather than abbreviate it to the point where it loses it's meaning.

correct ! next we will have to change the names of other law breakers crying we don't want to be called that . and talk about losing its meaning the pro illegal people have lost the term illegal immigration to the point that illegals are called immigrants dropping the illegal part too so that's a two way street i think you should give them a good chewing too ! i will be holding my breath for that one .

Why do you have this aversion to certainty and certainty? An egg is an egg and a sperm is a sperm and while they combine a foetus (Please notice the suited spelling) is shaped. A foetus isn't a toddler and can die if faraway from the womb. The foetus would not have the mandatory issues mandatory for all times outdoors of the mother. there's a energetic debate approximately while it differences from a foetus right into a touch one interior the womb however the known consensus it is on the factor the place it is shaped sufficiently to have the skill to stay to tell the story outdoors the female's physique. you only do unlike a term this is a mandatory area of understanding the ranges of childbirth and in case you bumped off it then it would complicate how a being pregnant is regulated and could desire to rather bring about foetal abnormalities or perhaps dying! those words are used for substantial motives!

I don't see particularly degrading. Their existence here illegally in this country makes their existence here illegal. I don't care what other country they come from.

Americans aren't necessarily too lazy to "vocalize an entire phrase". Its that many people don't feel that people who break the laws and disregard their fellow Mexican (or other nationality) citizens who choose to immigrate the right way deserve any particular verbal niceties when it comes to describing them.

I, for one, have never presumed that because someone is from Mexico he/she is lazy. I just know that people who take what they want and do what they want because they want or need something whether or not its legal do lack a certain degree of integrity; hence, nobody's worrying about verbal niceties. I don't believe these criminals should be abused in any way, but verbal niceties are a luxury they don't necessarily deserve - and if they don't like it (as my mother used to say) they can lump it.

It is not a matter of laziness, it is a matter of context and normal human speech practices. This phenomenon takes place in every culture I’ve been in. It even takes place with people using sign language. The term “illegal immigrants” does not loose anything when shortened to simply “illegals” as long as proper context is used.

So, the slightly shorter answer to your question is no. I do not find the term "illegals" to be degrading. I simply think finding an answer to the problem is more important than trying to protect the sensitivities of people who think they have a right not to be offended.

God bless.

I do not feel that it is a degrading term to use. Does ANYONE understand what the word illegal means here? It means NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE. They are not an immigrant, they are an illegal (they've come to the USA illegally - therefore their existance in AMERICA is ILLEGAL). That means that they don't have one single right in this country except to leave. Americans aren't lazy - Believe that. We're the ones who support them and the family that they had no chance of affording in the first place. I suggest you respect the true Americans that put up with people like you and your bullsh*t. Without US you'd be in a tough situation, so count your blessings.

I find the term "illegals" to be apt. Their very existence IS illegal -- here.

It's not laziness causing people to use a somewhat derogatory term instead of a more pleasant one -- it is disgust with the situation.

I'm a liberal, but my opinion on this issue seems to be very diiferent than your own. Perhaps if you lived in a place where you were confronted with the problems that arise from their driving, their healthcare needs, their educational needs, or their violence, you would have a better understanding.

You say: "to me, it makes it sound like the person's very existence is somehow illegal." The truth is that illegal immigrants within the United States are illegal because of their very existence in the United States.
I do not think that the shortened term is degrading. "Degrading" would be a racial slur or an attempt at putting them down. "Illegals" is truly a shortened version of illegal immigrant, regardless of which term they are illegals within our country, because of their very existence in our country.

Let me put it this way.

If the Mexican government and Mexican companies took proper advantage of NAFTA and other special manufacturing and marketing deals that they got from the USA so many years ago, you would LEAVE too.

Let's face it... China fills SHIPS with products at a very high cost, so that they can develop their society and infrastructure. Mexico could have filled old pickup trucks.... and didn't.

I would be ashamed to be from a country that simply gave away the opportunity to develop. I too would want to be an American, and head NORTH.

"Ilegal immigrant" is accurate and so is just saying 'illegal'. While we on this subject, and since I live in Southern California, I'm acquainted with so-called " illegals. They are the hardest working group of folks I have ever known. On Sundays they attend a mass in the wilds conducted by a local priest, and they put up with all the negativity surrounding them. These are the workers not the bad elements which unfortunately come with them.
