i have a 8 month old lab shepard mix that got out through my basement window . As soon as one of my neighbors seen she called me at work and I came to get her in but my husband already had gotten here. I only work two blocks away from my house. today i was served with a summons because someone called and reported it. I know who because he has been trying to force my landlord to make me get rid of them because he doesn't like my dogs. what should I do?

this person constantly harasses my dogs to get them to bark, he watches my house and even tells my landlord when I leave the basement light on.

Move. We had a neighbor like that once, and it is a pain in the butt and the dog will be the one to suffer.

Most animal control laws restrict pets to the owner's property, or on a leash and if a dog gets off the owner's property, the owner must take responsibility for their pet.
But anything can happen once, or even twice but more than that, there's a problem that needs addressing for keeping one's pets contained.
I understand your point completely, but not everyone likes dogs as you do. So you have to go the extra mile to not only be a good neighbor but also to protect your pets before something ugly happens. Don't give your neighbor a reason to hate your dogs.

Fight it... best bet would be to say someone opened the window on purpose while you were gone... probably same person who reported it. Around here Police won't do ANYTHING about it, even with photographs of the pitbull destroying your trash and dragging it completely around the house causing 2+ hours of work to clean up (multiple times) and growling at you and even charging you... Nothing...

first secure the window the dog is getting thru. second confront the a/h if the window is opened .third if you want to spend the money get a trail watcher camera used by deer hunters. be sure to get one that uses infrared so there is no tel-tell flash and catch him/her in the act, then burn the sob. forth and i am not telling you to do this i mention it for your information only, a little crazy glue squirted into a lock sure cases a bunch of trouble.
