Believe it or not, even though I'm old enough to be your mom, (have four sons, oldest 23) I understand. this country is a very discouraging place, the last couple of decades. When I took my son to a dr. at 18 (the week of 9/11) for anxiety, the doctor said, "We are seeing an unprecedented amount of young adults with anxiety. In fact, I would say that if your child doesn't have anxiety in this country right now, there would be something wrong with him. Anxiety, depression, discouragement, these are the norm, now. Your child has never known political hope."
That said, I believe there are ways you can find a country to love and believe in, right here at home. I too am discouraged. Very. But, I am an American. As flawed as she is, as sick as she is now, she is still the best country in the world. Just because there is an idiot in power, does not mean it's all downhill from here. I recommend that you study, really study, this nation. Read the bill of rights, the constitution. Amazing, unique documents. Study the lives of American martyrs like Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy (read their speechs--and listen to them!)
Read the poetry of Walt Whitman. Particularly, Song of myself. Get a newspaper and write letters to the editor. You can, here, still express yourself. Dye your hair green, or shave a smiley face into the top of it, and when people look at you strangely, flash them a smile by dipping your head!! (get your folks permission of course)
Look at your parents and see people. See what they do well, see what you do well, and most of all, see what you will do, if you stay and change your country.
I advise you to put your energies into making this a better country.
It can be.
Listen to REM"S STAND, or anything by woody guthrie or his son arlo.

Find something you love, art, music sport, and learn it. Teach yourself one new thing and stick to it. Then, teach it to someone else.
Read the bible, if you are up to it. God loves you, God bless you.

you might not think you are being selfish, but your parents know what they want for their lives, and they've been alive longer than you.

whats wrong with telling them off and going your own way? your sister will follow your lead when she turns old enough, if she feels it might benifit her.

moving to a different country is full of suprises, and there arent alot of people wanting to go and move as a mid-life discision. so dont press your parents to do something they dont want to do. i wanted to move when i was in my teens, i wanted to go to austrailia. i thought US stunk for all its bad discisions, but i decided i'd be leaving to much of what i liked in life, and nothing would be exactly the same.

everyone should be entitled to make their own mind up, and your not letting them. you have so much time right now, dont look at it like 18 is too far away. just wait. if it really pisses you off that much hop the border to canada or mexico, and get a job down there, fishing, or doing whatever you can to make a living. there are tons of things someone your age can be doing. so do it! you dont need your parents to hold your hand every step of the way! stop trying to push your life on everyone elses life. if you've already told your parents how they feel, and they havent done anything about it, your just out of luck. your not special, your not better than everyone else, and you dont get to make executive discisions over someone who is way, way older than you.

nicely, have you ever talked to your mothers and fathers approximately this. I stay out interior the country ( and unfortunatly i've got not got a barn or a horse or any cows, yet I even have worked in a barn a pair of circumstances) residing interior the country is magnificent, yet whilst your used to the city then it rather is a annoying element to conform with. to your mom, it could probably be annoying... as for the college element, it rather is phooey, i could say.... I certainly think of that for the time of a few strategies they are extra suited, they have not got each and all of the bomb threats and all that jazz and not as many undesirable influenzes. clarify to your loved ones ( in stable verbal replace, no screaming or arguing) why it rather is and in the event that they don't prefer to hearken to it precise then, watch for them to be in a extra suited temper. be careful the form you modern-day it to boot. from now on than that, it fairly is as much as them, and you will in simple terms might desire to deal with it. stable good fortune Oh yeah, rodeos are the terrific! :D

Well, hey, just move.

Too bad you won't be able to afford rent or clothes or food or telephone or internet, but you just go right ahead.

Hmmph. Those selfish parents. Probably want to stay because they have careers and a mortgage and ties to the community. Hmmph.

It sounds like a very immature and self-centered person wrote that question. Is that you?

If you're not 18 then you are still a minor. Your parents are responsible for you until you grow up. When you do grow up, then you can move any where you please. Hopefully, you'll be able to support yourself when you decide to move.'

You are the property of your parents and until you turn 18 and want to live on your own and make your own decisions. Growing up sucks and we all went through it. It does not last forever.

I would tell them that this is not the place for me in this country. what I would do is fight with them every night by turn off the TV in front of them cutting the phone line in front of them do not let them do anything until they finally give up and say they will let you go to another country. it take time to fight agains them even though you are 18 parents can be over protecting.. so keep on fighting even though they say they do not wan tot talk about they do not want ot lsiten about it jeep on bugging them about it everyday!!!!!!!!!! it take challenging to keep on fighting you can do it.

who the hell really gives a crap about what your parents want...you do what you need to do to fulfill your little heats desire you hear?...in the end of all things said and done... you only have yourself to question...so do what feels right...regardless of what anybody else tells you to do...listen to your heart.
