make sure your shampoo is for "damaged hair" and make sure you leave your conditioner in during the duration of your shower, rinsing it out just before you finish your shower. its a great way to get the most out of your conditioner.
leave in conditioners help manage your hair and keep it smooth especially while you are styling in the morning.
I've also heard taking just a little bit of hair gel, a little bit of leave in conditioner, and just a little bit of hot water, mix it all up in the palm of your hand, and smooth it all in your hair. fix it up in a ponytail, or do whatever with it, makes everything smother all day long.
tricks for softer hair? the leave in treatments you can buy are great, hot oil, mega conditioners, all serve their purpose.
I've heard ice cold water is a great and cheap treatment for shiny and softer hair. the myth about egg whites making your hair softer is a hoax, you will only have scrambled eggs after your shower if you do something like this. I've also heard mayo is a trick for making your hair softer.

My first choice of product to help soften my hair and make it more manageable after a chemical product is always Infusium Leave In Conditioner. Used daily, until hair returns to normal, it works wonders!
Also about once a week I use a Henna and Placenta packet on my hair. I wash my hair like normal and then use the henna. I leave it in overnight and let it soak in, then rinse in the AM.

Hey my name is tyler and of course im a girl, and i know exactly how you feel. My hair is sooooo thick, my mom says its like cotton, it takes me like 10 min to brush it NEway i had mine permed last summer so, your not the only one... well wat u can do is if its not too short, cut it, or put in a good leave in conditioner after u shower, or blowdry or straiten it everyday. I just got mine cut really short, and if you do this youll be fine!

I have plenty of ideas of things you can use from around the house, but I can't help you if you only use salon products.
