Most of us here have never backed or been in a Crusade, Jihad, or Incuisition have we? Why are we being judged by those things?

Do you think that Christ actually taught and backed these hateful things?

For many people It could be just simple overgeneralization...where to make things more black & white for them (thus easier to judge) they just put all members of that particular faith/system into the same boat as those people who committed these atrocities in the name of that faith/system.

For others it could be because it was done before, so it could be done again...especially with the rise of fundamentalists now which seek to control almost all sections/actions of government. Tied to this would be that they see the faith(s) behind these atrocities as the true cause of it all (because God permitted this and that...)...so as long as one person who believes this faith lives the possibility exists that it (the aforementioned atrocity) will happen again.

If one were to even have a short glancing reading through the Gospels, one will immediately find out that the real Jesus would never have condoned or supported these sorts of atrocities.

As faith has been used as a tool to commit some horrendous activities; you do not even have to go far back in history to see this.

You are not judged by those things, the religion is; you do not have to be religion to have faith in something.

Guilt by association.

But, certainly we don't blame YOU personally for the misgivings of your religion. You had nothing to do with the religious persecutions brought on by zealots who believed as you do.

It's like what the fundie xians say - don't hate the sinner, hate the sin.

Don't hate the fundie xian.. hate xianity.

To create instability and disorganization among the masses to extract oil with less hassle - much like DeBeers has done in Africa to try to control the diamond market.
