This is more typical in dogs than you would think. It is actually called Coprophagia. There are multiple reasons for this behavior. The pup may be suffering from poor nutrition, due to an Internal Absorption disorder and may be just looking for anything to eat, because they are hungry. It also can be a sign of Diabetes or an Inflamed Bowel. They may also have a Pancreatic Deficiency. The first step is to, of course; keep them away from the poop and clean it up as soon as it is excreted. You can also purchase products called either Forbid or Deter through the vets office. You may want to discuss this behaviour with the vet so he can eliminate (bad choice of terminology) any of the conditions listed above. Best of luck, it is disgusting to us, and perfectly normal to an animal descended from the wild. Have a good night!

dogs eat their own stuff because they have a heighten sense of smell and they smell the food they ate in their poop. This also means your dog is still hungry and you may have to increase his/her food intake. Dogs also have a nutrient problem. It's important to feed your dog the right food for his or her needs. I'm a Purina/Alpo fan. They also have the natural instinct to clean up their shame. Pick up the poop right away and your dog will be fine.

Because they aren't getting the proper food and more than anything their hungry. Take it to the vet, they'll tell what is wrong, poor dog.

It is quite often a sign that the dog has a mineral deficiency.

Because they can't taste it! And don't know it's wrong. Talk to your VET.
