I think that ANYONE who bashes or criticizes ANYONE is narrow minded. Believer or nonbeliever.

Do you think that Christians who foist their beliefs upon others, attempt to create laws that violate the beliefs of other religions, and control the poplulation are not narrow minded?
Not all Christians are narrow minded. Not all non-christians are narrow minded. When Christians keep their laws off my body and out of my bedroom, then I might be more inclined to admit I am a former Christian. I follow the Tao (that is pronounced dow) and have many Buddist beliefs.
There is a valid reason for separation of church and state yet Christians keep attempting to enact laws based on their religion rather than on the societal ethics. Morals are a personal issue, Ethics the social issue. When Christians can tell the difference there will be a better base for our communication.

I agree that some atheists always bash all Christians. I am atheist who has criticised Christians and all people who believe the Hebrew Bible is the "Word of God". I simply can't accept that if God exists that he/she/it would be anything like the petty, jealous, selfish God of the old testament. I especially find the laws of Leviticus to be repugnant and immoral.
Now, with all that said, I know a few Christians with whom I've discussed this we got along fine. One such Christian is one of my best friends. He won't come right out and admit it, but I think he things that Christ really was the son of God, but that the Old Testament is mostly myth.
So, I think it is a mistake to try to paint either Christians or atheists as being all narrow minded. Certainly there *are* narrow-minded Christians, and there *are* narrow-minded atheists. But likewise there are open-minded Christians and atheists.

I agree with Debra M, it is narrow-minded to bash anyone. You can criticize an opinion that you may not agree with, but you should still have respect for that person. There's a fine line between standing firm in your beliefs and forcing those beliefs on others. I will defend anything I believe, but I still listen to the opinions of others without putting them down. If the whole world could do that, wouldn't it be a more peaceful place to live?

Most of the atheists in this section of YA, not all, but most, are the most intolerant, miserable people I've ever encountered. They are rude, nasty, snide, and narrow minded is an understatement. I have never tried to "convert" any of them, yet they continually put down everything we believe in. Why? I think its the bully mind-set. Either they were bullied as children, or abused, and they are lashing out the only way they can without going to jail. Just be glad they're lashing out here and not abusing children or animals. Just ignore them, its not like we can give them mental health therapy. If we'd all just ignore them and their rude "questions", they'd get bored and bug someone at another section. Just because we read their insulting questions doesn't mean we have to answer them. It is annoying when you're actually looking for legitimate questions.

Do you not think this question can be related to some Christians also?
Do you not think that some Christians are also intolerant?
Do you not think that some Christians are not open minded?
Do you not think that some Christians believe that to worship another or not worship at all are being narrow minded?
To ask such a question without first analysing you own belief is narrow minded and intolerant.

I'm sure some are. However, most of the excitement you see is from Americans who really love the Bill of Rights and have been listening carefully to leaders of politcally active conservative Christian groups. These range from the anti-abortionists, who take a legitimate political postition, through the bigoted anti-gay folks, on to the folks who would not only strip gay folks of any rights, but would also strip all americans of any rights, and institute a theocracy.
When people wanted to handle snakes and roll on the floor uttering strange syllables, we were all cool with that. It's when a group of christians started trying to take away our freedoms, started trying to establish their church with public prayer and school prayer and tax-payer funded nativity scenes and marriage laws based on 4000 year old hebrew myths, started trying to equate being an American with being a (certain kind of) Christian, that we had to stand up and say - CUT IT OUT! And, when you wouldn't cut it out, and tried to justify this hijacking of democracy based on your 'sacred texts' that we had to point out just what these texts are, where they came from, where they err, contradict, mimic pagan tales, etc etc etc. It's not bashing - it's self-defense. Logic is our weapon. Love of country and freedom is our strength.

Anyone who bashes anyone for their belief or faith is a narrow minded person. Christians are no better. A lot of them (the fundamental ones) bash everyone who do not think or believe like them. It goes all ways.

I think sometimes people get the feeling that Christians look down their noses at anyone who isn't christian, and that they seeeeeeeem to contradict what the bible teaches about loving everyone and being nonjudgmental. (not me, so don't shoot the messenger). I just think they feel a little like that and it causes them to be defensive and challenging. Its all so silly. Just love God and stop fighting kids.
Ps an entry above proves my point. If there is indeed an Almighty, He and He alone would judge who will go to hell.... not some mear mortal who's sitting high on the horse.

i feel that anyone who bashes or constantly criticize anyone because of their religion is very ignorant and quite possibly afraid. it is very foolish to criticize something just for the simple fact that either they don't believe or understand other's faith. Why don't people become more open minded?
