Not all people are, but those few who are mean are quite noticeable. Partly it has to do with dominance in the social structure, and if one seems needy, some will perceive that as weakness.

People do try to help others. Look for them, and respect their efforts.

Good luck to you.

Its a competitive world that we have built for ourselves, isn't it nice????? We put so much emphasis on money that we have taught our children that nothing else exists. So thus this is the new world we have created. Its awful and we don't have much choice but to live with it and deal with it. I don't know what the future will be like but I don't see it getting any better any time soon. The only thing I can do is try to make sure im doing my best to be kind to others to the best of my ability because I realize that I cannot change others, I can only change myself and by setting a good example and hopefully that will have a ripple effect and make other people think that kindness is not such a bad thing after all.

Lots of people appear to be mean, and some really are mean (and rude). Most people come here with the noble aim of helping others, even if they are just showing off when they do it, so that's good.

People who seem to be mean are often just trying to say "You should not be asking for help with this", because maybe it's a homework question, or maybe asking an opinion, or a question that is easily answered easily elsewhere, and maybe ONLY elsewhere.

Also, some people come here to ask inflammatory or stupid questions, and they almost always get a rise out of someone, it's just human nature.

If you ask a reasonable, careful question, you will always get a reasonable, careful answer.

A small percentage might be mean to others who are trying hard. My experience has been that there are a lot of kind people out there willing to help. However, the majority of people are *self-fish* and only think of themselves first, second, and thrid, and don't give a lending hand. It's Selffishness unfortunately.

I am a teacher and I respect a student who may not be the smartest kid but is trying hard to be her best way more than I respect a brilliant student who does nothing extra. Mean people are just insecure and try desperately to find someone they perceive to be weaker than they. Just be glad you are not mean, and pity those that are.

You may be using all your strenght the wrong way, that is why you get the wrong results. Change your goal or your methods.

Your objective is not clear enough to the rest of people. Or they do get your point, but simply disagree. Don't let yourself down.
