Brutus, Casius, and several other seantors murdered him on the ides of march (March 15) because they believe that he had too much political power and that he was going to become a king. His famous last words were "et tu brute" which mean "And you to Brutus." He said this because he was great friends with Brutus. There was a large plot to kill him.

I don't believe that one stabber could have done all that damage. the dagger would've had to enter, move up, then left, then down, then go through to the other side before being withdrawn. there had to be a second stabber. possibly hiding behind a bush.
