Terms such as "slain in the Spirit" and "falling under the power" are not found in the Bible. I am not aware of any Scriptures that specifically describe this experience which occurs in some church services, where believers are prayed for and in the process fall to the floor and remain unconscious for a time. Some call attention to Revelation 1:10-17 which tells how the apostle John fell at the feet of Jesus when he was "in the spirit on the Lord's day," and saw the glorious revelation of Christ. There was also the transfiguration of Christ, when Peter, James, and John "fell on their face" at the revelation of Christ's glory (Matthew 17:1-8).

Some who have experienced being "slain in the Spirit" say that God used it to minister to them by His Spirit in personal ways. In other instances it has been associated with the new birth, the fullness of the Holy Spirit, spiritual, emotional, or physical healing, or deliverance. However, whatever one may think about the experience of being "slain in the Spirit," it should not be made an expectation for all believers or be considered a sign of spiritual maturity. In addition, discernment needs to be exercised by mature church leadership since the power of suggestion and mere emotionalism can so easily mimic legitimate spiritual experience. It is never God's will that we seek spiritual experience for the sake of experience. God's will is that we seek Jesus Himself by faith and in accordance with the Word of God. He is our only source of genuine spiritual experience, satisfaction and fulfillment (Psalm 16:11, Philippians 3:10-14).

The concept of "slain in the spirit" is not found anywhere in the Bible. It is a technique used by word/faith teachers as a type of mind-control. Anyone who says they have "felt something" with it has been tricked into that by a teacher who is more concerned about experiences than biblical truth.

If they would go with what is biblical, they would not be doing any of that. It teaches people to look for experiences, which Satan is very good at faking, instead of studying the Bible for what is true.

Get the movie, "Marjoe," and you will see one of these false teachers telling you how they do it. It is NOT the Holy Spirit, EVER.

It's plain and simple a false teaching that there is no way to ever support from the Bible.

I was hitting the point in my life that was either going to be a breakdown or breakthrough. A slain spirit, FOR ME, was when I was telling God he didn't exist. Funny thing was I was TELLING GOD he didn't exist. I was sitting in a corner wanting to know the truth and God showed me he lived by removing himself from my reach, which felt like when you reach in the dark for something important you know is there, something that you really need, but it seems just outside of your grasp. It felt empty, that's probably the best way to describe it...very empty. I wasn't scared, I wasn't mad, I wasn't any emotion...I just felt empty. And it came on suddenly and then it faded. The rest of that night after the experience two years ago, I've never doubted in God, which doesn't mean I stopped asking questions of my faith, but I never had to doubt the existence of my Creator anymore.

I am a very curious person and have been known to try things to find out if they are true or not. I was in a meeting where this was happening. So I wanted to find out what it felt like. I went forward and the magician, oops, I meant evangelist put his hand on me and I felt very woozy. I sat back in my seat and thought to myself to go back up and get seconds. He touched me again and I was so drowsy and flaccid that I could not get up. My mind was very lucid. I was observing the experience. Nothing of any merit happened. I just could not get my muscles to respond. It was like they were dormant. Finally some ushers pulled me upright and as I used my muscles, my strength came back to normal. Aside from being in that condition, there was no supernatural event happening. Nothing happened at all aside from the physical manifestation of weakness. So I concluded that there is not much to it.
