i live in NY nassau county. I went on a job interview and the director told me he was going to hire me and welcomed me aboard. However he did say i have to take a civil service exam. My question is do some places allow you to begin working before taking this test? because how can they wait so long if they need to hire someone soon? i wasn't told when i would start, but someone else told me i have to get a psychical exam/bloodwork/ limited permit/ and all this other stuff that is going to cost me a whole bunch of money . So i got the impression they will allow me to begin work before i take this test.

No, I took the tests and they have to send you on job interviews. If you don't go, they drop you. No other test were needed, unless you get a job interview. Good luck, Kitty
