Personally, I'd go into the Air Force if I wasn't in college. That would be kind of baised though, since my dad is enlisted. Not as bad as the other branches.

If you are talking about the Global War on Terrorism, then each of the branches are involved in that fight. If you are talking about direct action - then join the Army or Marine Corps. The Army is the one branch doing the majority of the fighting (based on sheer troop numbers), followed by the Marine Corps. There is less fighting to be done by the Navy and Air Force now, but there are still units for both which are heavily involved in this war: EOD, Special Warfare, Construction Battalions, Corpsmen, etc.

One thing to remember - the reality of the situation is that the only a small portion of the military is actually actively involved in the Iraq/Afghanistan. You need to find a job that you would be willing to do whether you are in the sandbox or not.

Disclaimer: Recently left the Marine Corps after 5 years - not a recruiter.

To get an ideal fit, meet with all recruiters at least once to see who is offering a job you want to do. The misconception is that fighting will be a primary responsibility. If there is something you have wanted to do with your life, one of the branches can probably offer you that job in some form. Then decide want you want to do during your time in the military. Are you going to make it a career? Only do one contract? This will pull you toward making the best decisions on where you want to be stationed and what benefits you should ask to receive. Whatever you do, seriously consider the legal service you are taking on. It is not college or a job you can just quit. If you can't find yourself able to swallow the thought of being deployed for several months at a time in austere enviroments, I would say it is not fair on yourself to consider the Army or Marine Corps. Those are a guaranteed path to Iraq or Afghanistan. I did four 7-month deployments in 5 years and that is not considered unusual in today's military.

Well it depends on what you want. You got the navy and air force that are best for seeing the world and working with air crafts boats, seeing limited action. Navy has the best food too by the way. Army you have a huge selection of things from nursing to intelligence. You have that in the navy too its just you have more variety in the army. If you want the toughest challenge you have ever had and to be recognized i mean really recognized, i would say marines, who are usually based in warm climates on a coast.

They all have there good points and bad, but id say see a recruiter, just to talk and find out more about each service.

The military's primary mission is to meet with and kill the enemy. How are you with that? I know, there are many jobs in many of the service branches that do not personally do that, but... that is what you are signing up for.

Want to help our country? Is that the only motive? Join the Peace Corps. It gets you not only helping our country but other folks, as well.

However, I suspect you think there is something glamorous and exciting about being in the service. It has its moments. Lots of other kinds of moments, as well. You need to think clearly about your personal goals. Do you want a career after the service? Then find a skill outside and see if you can get an *IRONCLAD* in writing guarantee of that schooling in a branch of the service. Do not believe recruiters, they lie worse than used car salesmen. Get it in writing or do not go.

The mission of the military is to win the nations wars. Are you willing to lose your life for this country? If not you can support the troops but sending letters and care packages, especially to those troop who might not have families. Or you can work at the USO. Start there.

I prefer the Army. But maybe that's cause I married an Army man.

It all depends (joining) on what you want. Talk to recruiters for all and see who offers you the best deal.

Navy is good if you dont want to do too much physical fighting. You could be a technician or nurse or something. They are all great units. Best of luck serving our great country.

you should really do research with each branch. it really depends on you and what you want to do. don't talk to recruiters, they will tell you anything you want to hear. talk to people in the military. think about what kind of career you want to have. and go from there. good luck and thank you.

DEpends on your skills. If being a soldier does not appeal to you, you could always volunteer for the USO, which is a great ORG
