In reality French is very similar to Spanish. Learning wise at that time I rate it a 10. But I took 4 years of French in high school and I don't remember a whole lot of it because I am unable to practice it repetitively. I think in today's society Spanish would be a better second language to take. You can always find someone to converse with. Best wishes =)

It all depends on what the method is like. It can be very easy or very difficult.

15,000 words have come directly from the French into the English language. In reading, you can see them easily, although they might not sound like it. You already probably know some such as chic (pronounced sheek), bon voyage, rendez-vous, RSVP, attention, problème, éléphant, crêpes, papier mâché, lingerie, table. I could go on and on and on. In fact, I have a file that has about 3 pages, 3 columns each page, of only cognates (the words that look similar in both languages).

If the method focuses on grammar, ANY language is difficult. If the method focuses on comprehensible input, it is soooo easy! My first year students have had 13 days of class and they read a 250 word story the other day. Most of them could tell you a simple story by now.

The method is what makes any language easy or not. I don't know anything about the system you mentioned so I can't say. If you want to really enjoy learning a language, try taking a Fluency Fast class near you. It is the most fun you will ever have learning a language and you will gain the language in huge leaps. http://www.fluencyfast.com

Spanish is only more useful in the U.S. - In Canada, French is much more useful...you have to be French/English bilingual to work for the government.

I think that French is pretty easy to learn if you are motivated. The grammar and syntax is a little different than English, but like a previous response said, there are a lot of similarities. You need to search out opportunities to use the language. If you don't use it, you will lose it. Try looking for an Alliance Francaise near you, or a Francophone cultural centre.

Hope I helped.

I've been learning French for well-nigh 30 years and I don't have it mastered. My husband's first language is French and he can't spell in French for beans. I'll say 10.

(It doesn't start too hard though.)

As a french, it is hard to speak a perfect french ...
even for us!!!!
I speak a latin language, i also know spanish and italian...
Italian is the easiest, then spanish and french.
But i disagree with the guy who say "we dont give a **** about french in 10 years".... he doesn't know about french culture i guess...
Fortunatly there are millions of french speakers in the world, and it is a beautiful language...

it depends on your native language
for example
if its english i'll give you a 9 unfortunately
if its spanish i'll give you a 5
generally french is a language with rather easy vocabulary but the two(in my opinion) hardest things to learn are
1.articles for example la table,le autobus
2.the tenses:there are so many tenses and also subjonctif and all that
but don't lose your courage:its a great language
good luck
