Head Lice Home Remedies
If you don't want to use a chemical on your child's head, the most effective treatment that doesn't involve using any products at all simply involves removing the nits and live lice with a lice comb and/or tweezers. This is the method that is advocated by The National Pediculosis Association. It can be time consuming to do this and you may have to repeat the procedure for several days to make sure you get them all, but this is likely the best thing to do. You still have to take the time to comb out all of the nits anyway even if you use an anti-lice shampoo, as these shampoos don't kill the eggs. If you don't, they will just hatch and you will have live lice again.
Most other natural home remedies involve putting something on your child's scalp and hair to 'smother' the head lice. Popular choices include real mayonnaise, olive oil, and vaseline. These are usually left on overnight, often under a shower cap, and then washed out the next day. They can be very messy though and have not really been proven to work. Some experts believe that this method 'works' because you actually remove the nits and lice as you try to get this stuff out of the child's hair.
There are also herbal remedies to treat head lice, including products with tea tree oil and other essential oils. Because they are 'natural,' these are not regulated by the FDA, have not been proven to work, and should be used with caution and avoided in younger children
Here is a list of some other treatments
Treatment #1
Combine 1/2 teaspoon each of eucalyptus, pennyroyal and rosemary. Then add 2-1/2 tablespoons of pure olive oil. An adult needs to try the mixture on his own skin first to make sure it doesn't burn. If it does, add more olive oil.
After washing your child's hair with very hot water (as hot as the child can stand), comb the oil mixture through hair with a regular comb (the throw-away kind). Then using a flea comb, comb out any nits or eggs. Tie a cotton scarf around your child's head and leave on overnight. It may tingle; if it burns, wash it out immediately, dilute the mixture and try again.
The next morning, wash your child’s hair with a good tea tree shampoo. This should take care of the lice; however, repeat the treatment if necessary. To prevent lice (when it has been reported in your child's school), rub tea tree oil or sassafras oil into the scalp.
Treatment #2
A natural alternative to killing head lice is to use mayonnaise. Cover the entire scalp and hair with mayonnaise, cover with plastic wrap and leave on about half an hour. Shampoo and remove all the nits or eggs.
Treatment #3
For best effectiveness, use a safe, pure soap like Botanic GOLD™ (not Botanic Insecticidal Soap) and carefully follow the directions below. Every step is important.
On a dry head, start at the nape of the neck along the hairline and apply soap around the head, saturating the hair as you go. Move toward the crown, where the hair is tied up. Remove the clips or ponytail and continue to apply the soap, using enough to completely saturate the hair.
Massage the head, work into a lather and then comb through the hair to ensure complete coverage (use a metal, regular-toothed comb). Wrap or tie the hair back up on top of the head. Wait 30 to 40 minutes, massaging the hair every 10 minutes or so. Do not rinse or allow to dry. Reapply if necessary to keep moist.
The next morning, wash your child’s hair with a good tea tree shampoo. This should take care of the lice; however, repeat the treatment if necessary. To prevent lice (when it has been reported in your child's school), rub tea tree oil or sassafras oil into the scalp.

I'd say to start with have a phrase with the institution, if there's a head lice challenge then they will have to be conscious and should either do checks themselves or send a observe out to father and mother to make them mindful so it can be stopped - in thought this works, reality is rather distinct of direction. Tea tree oil and Neem oil are probably the most apparent solutions, but i'm going to also add that quite often any heavy oil will do the job for the reason that it will basically suffocate the little nasties – get your self some olive oil, saturate her hair in it, then put plastic wrap round her head for might be 1/2 an hour or so, it may be a real agony in the behind to get out however it'll additionally improve her hairs condition, and a excellent tea tree shampoo has the amazing capacity to cut by means of grease higher than most different shampoos so it should rinse out after a few washes. I'd additionally advocate after shampooing add some vinegar to a couple water – one part vinegar to ten parts water, use this as a final wash on her hair, beautiful shine and the lice don't seem to be too keen on the stuff, don't worry about the odor it goes as her hair dries. But one other thought, is to use mayonnaise, which may be less difficult so that you can handle than the olive oil correctly less complicated to clean out, again you simply put all of it by means of the hair, wrap her head up in plastic wrap and depart for a while earlier than washing out – once more, also just right for hair . Don't blow dry the hair, despite the fact that it could be tempting and heat does correctly kill them off the heat will even leave any treatment practically vain as it will scale down the effectiveness. When utilising the comb also be sure to focus on the top of the neck and in the back of the ears as this is the place they opt for to hold round. Are living have a three day life cycle so you need to use cure as soon as every three days for a week or two to ensure the eggs don’t easily hatch and effect in additional lice far and wide again. Wash everything, the satisfactory that you could on a high heat adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the showering powder – word lice can handiest reside up to 48 hours and not using a human host, which will repeatedly be used to your potential. There is not any strong evidence to support that cleansing of bedding helps with the hindrance, however personally it is valued at a try given as different bugs can live in bedding it stands to motive that head lice can too. Not all herbal i do know, but nonetheless worth mentioning to check out to aid you, right? Good success :o)

To kill (actually smother) head lice completely, follow these simple instructions:
Step 1
Saturate hair completely with Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise, Best Real Mayonnaise, or Kraft Real Mayonnaise. Be sure to work the mayonnaise in the hair and roots well. Hair MUST be extremely greasy from the mayonnaise to prevent lice from breathing.
Step 2
Wrap hair as tightly as possible with Saran Wrap or Handi-Wrap (or a shower cap), then wrap with a towel.
Step 3
Allow to remain on head for at least one hour. Two hours will guarantee all the lice are dead. During this time take all pillow cases, towels, blankets, sheets and clothes that have come into contact with any lice-infested hair and run them through the washing machine and dryer.
Step 4
Shampoo hair thoroughly. Rinse hair with Heinz White Vinegar, then rinse clean with water. Comb hair with a nit comb if desired. No nits should survive this treatment if done properly.Congratulations! You're done! There's no need to repeat the treatment in seven days as with medicated shampoos. Don't worry about any lice that may have escaped during the treatment. Lice die within 12 to 24 hours without a human head to feed on and, contrary to popular belief, they cannot jump nor will they transfer to your pets.

Conditioner and a nit comb.
You could try vinegar watered down as well it is supposed to make the eggs glue dissolve.
You have to part the hair and do small sections at a time. It used to take me about 1 hour each night. (daughters hair was down to middle of her back and she has thick hair.)
You do have to do it every night for a couple of weeks and then every other day for another week and then twice a week to get them completely free.
The biggest problem is you can do all this and they can get re-infected as fast as you can clear them. So tell school/nursery so they can send letters out. They will not say it is your child who has got them.
Tea tree oil used to be quite effective but I have found it doesn't work as good these days.
A couple of years ago I think I went through every nit lotion off the chemist and the doctor and none of them worked so had to do the comb and conditioner method.
Nits prefer a clean head so try not to feel too upset by this problem.
Hope this helps. :-)

cover the hair thoroughly with mayonnaise and comb through. The lice hate the vinegar in the mayo and the oil in the mayo stops the little buggers from clinging onto the hair.
Also, combing through with conditioner works as the hair is too slippery for the nits to cling on to, so they'll come out easily.
I usually finish with a tea tree rinse, as the tea tree works best as a preventative measure.
Remember that it's the combing through that's the active part of this as they don't come out by themselves. Do it every day until you see them gone. And don't forget to wash the bedding.

DO NOT try vasaline to "smother" them.
I did this as a teenage. After washing my hair and my roomate's hair with 4 types of shampoo, then dishwashing liquid, and it still being a greasy mess, we finally tried the stuff mechanics use to get car grease off their hands "go-jo"...
