Let me explain, I want to be a Christian but I don't really bat in the big league. I'm fine with an hour of church several Sundays a month. (if I'm not too hungover or out fishing). I try to keep the 10 commandments to a point where I still a chance to get through the pearly gates. (Strip clubs don't count as adultery right? Does "coveting" count against you if you don't know what it means?). Trouble is the church I have been going to is getting all evangelical.
Look I am happy to sing carols and hymns in a group. What I can't abide is where white people are compelled to dance in church, where you have to hug people you hardly know, watching people cry in front of a congregation and any hand clapping whatsoever.
I am looking for that minimum commitment, low hassle type of sprituality that the Methodists used to offer. Another thing I am not available for any sort of religious activity mid week.
PS I usually spot about $10 on the collection plate.
Thanks in advance for your suggest

Then don't do the Unitarians. Or the Unity churches. They can get into that huggy thing. Try the Episcopalians instead.

The most the Episcopalians will ask of you is to shake hands and say "Peace of Christ to you." That's about it. No hugging unless you really mean it. And...most are completely nonevangelical. In fact, they're very like a Roman Catholic mass, only 30% less guilt.

The issue is not the things they do in the church. You can find churches where people sit quietly and listen to the preacher. You can find churches where they won't force you to hug people you don't know.

Christianity is not about all those things. Those are negotiables and personal preference issues.

Christianity IS about a relationship with the God who created you. It is a complete submission to HIS will. HE gets to call the shots in your life. Everything you do is because He is God and you know that and you are going to let Him BE God, totally.

This isn't what you are describing. What you describe is where YOU are the god of your own life and God needs to fit into the mold you want Him to. Sorry, we don't make God in the image we want Him to be. We either accept Him as He is or reject Him. YOU'RE the one who will have to change, not Him.

It's like you are saying, I want to be married, but I still want to go out on dates and sleep with whoever I want and have my own place to live. I'll just be married when it's convenient. Believe me, that doesn't work. It's an all or nothing prospect. You either take God on HIS terms, or not at all.

I am by no means a judge, but in reality to be a christian is to be christ like. Next time you are being straddled by a stripper. ASk yourself. Are you being a light? Actions speak louder then words. As far as a low commitment. Its either give God your all or nothing at all. I know there are ppl who are gonna have a field day with this. I think, instead of asking a bunch of ppl u dont know about your walk with God. Maybe you should hit your knees and pray. If your heart is sincere, God will never lead you wrong.

Sorry -- I don't know of any ""pick and choose"" Churches.

You are either for The God/Jesus , or against.

If you ever really want a Church send me an Email with City and State and I will send you a list to check out.
(I am quite willing to post same on Q&A if necessary.)

Check out the live weekly broadcasts on the link on the left. Might be good for those inbetweens of your 'in person' attendances.

Good Luck

Try Baptist, sorry but that is one of the reasons I found that faith not to my liking. There are those who of this church who follow it fully but many do not.
