I am planning to purchase a cod liver oil supplement in liquid form but it so confusing. There are hundreds of different products and I don't have any idea which one is the best one and most effective.

If you want to take cod liver oil because of the beneficial omega 3 oils, I strongly suggest that instead you take flax oil. Flax is just as high in omega 3, and the oil tastes great. We mx it 50-50 with vinegar to make a salad dressing. But I haven't heard anything good about the taste of cod liver oil.

I'm talking about taking the OIL, by the way, not taking capsules or something. It is much cheaper per dose to use the oil than the capsules, which contain almost nothing.

Also, never cook with flax oil or cod liver oil. Use cold or at room temperature.

I don't know of the brand name but I heard to buy FILTERED cod liver oil. That may narrow down your search. And this has benefits that flax seeds don't so don't listen to that other guy.
