Most cats will only drink out of freshly attended bowls or running sinks.
In nature, big cats will only drink from flowing streams and almost never from stagnant ponds (unless it is the only water.)
This comes from their natural instinct for fresh water and to avoid disease and parasites that come from standing water.
Big cats and house cats are more alike than anyone realizes.

I'm sure your cat is special, but not because it drinks out of the sink. 3 of my cats drink from the bathtub. only 1 directly from the faucet. then I have 1 who only drinks from the toilet, even thought their water bowl is in the bathroom. I think they like the freshness of the cool water. If you are concerned they do sell a fresh water, circulating water dish for cats.

I'm sure your cat is special... but nearly every cat I've ever had (over 15) has preffered to drink out of "found" water holes (sink, toilet, tub) than to drink out of the bowl I provide.
I think it has to do with a hunting instinct.

Make sure your cat has a clean washed water bowl, it probably has a smell on or in it that the cat don't like. When I pour fresh water into the water bowl, my cats really get excited, one actually sticks his little nose in it once in awhile. They also love their water bowl, on a little bench or somewhere that is not right on the floor.

My cats have freshly filtered water in a cleaned bowl in many places throughout the house and they drink water from them. My son's cat loves to drink from a faucet. My Sylvie loves to drink from the coffee pot when I fill it with filtered water in the morning before it goes into the coffee machine.

My cat does the same thing except she drinks from glasses of water people leave around the house or the toilet! The toilet, but she won't touch her water bowl.

My cats only do that when the water bowl is dirty *usually from their little litter box escapades..I've found litter on the other side of the house before*. If your cat's bowl is clean, maybe your cat is just plain weird ;)

Mine prefers to drink from the bathtub faucet, even when he has fresh water in his bowl. He'll jump in, go to the faucet and just look at me until I turn it on for him. I think it's the fact that it's cold and fresh. It cracks me up.

Cats are funny. They like to drink out of the faucet if it is dribbling slowly. They like to bat it
with their paws and drink it. It's Play time!
