I got this as a quote from
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, 1990
I posted a question recently and I was completely blown over by the complete intolerance of some people; however it came as no surprise to find out which religion they came from!
This quote sums up my feelings regarding Chrstianity.....

Merci, I think you have misunderstood the quote; it is saying that to envolve yourself in organised religion you are throwing away the ability to see the world for what is it, not for what your religion think it should be.

mostly disagree. Even though, I have known a few such individuals. If one wants to know how the world really works go the creator. Many scientists don't even know how the world works.Let's see, is Pluto a planet or not? Is eggs good for you or bad for you?

Those who seek consolation in existing churches often pay for their peace of mind with a tacit agreement to accept conventional religious wisdom and ignore the alternative wisdom taught by those claimed to be the religions' founder.
In essence, yes, I agree.

No.
I can only answer based on personal experience.
I don't seek consolation in churches. I seek the word of God.
Moreover, I do not tacitly or otherwise agree to ignore a great deal of what is known about the way the world works, nor does anyone pressure me to ignore such things.

I agree. In order for a person to be at peace in this world, one has to focus on spirituality and that is what churches offer. It is where one could find what really matters and usually these are the things that are beyond physical or beyond what the material world provides.

"a tacit agreement to ignore a great deal of what is known about the way the world works"
Hardly. We know a great deal more about the way the world works...a lot more than you may realize.

In reading the 'question' (and commentary) I wonder if the asker is confusing; A the scriptures with B the additions/subtractions to God's word (i.e. tests).
There are a few tests for man; after all man is a false god (Gen. 3).
Unless I am mistaken; that assertion about man being a false god includes self and the asker.

totally agree. it may even go further, creating intolerance by making people used to certain types of other people.after w ahile the desire to interact with others may be diminished if existent at all anymore.
eventually ties with other peoples wil lwither away and even create a sense of hate or mistrust between different groups. ending in a fear.

That's true. People seek religion because they haven't found happiness in the "real" world and because they socialize with other people who encourage them to become religious. Religion is a refuge from reality.

No argument here! I wonder sometimes when there will be a merger between science and religion if ever. It seems that in the old days they pretty much walked the same pace.

totally agree. those who are extremist (christian, muslim, etc) all fall into this. it's their inability to remove their blinders and see the world at large that will doom our world. we try need to get over the concept that there is only one way to worship and not force our way down other's throats. our myoptic views prevent us from see the larger world around us.
