I have one from Japan. I like it but if there is a kanji I don't know I can't get the kana for it-which maybe they provide the hiragana for english users-does such an electronic dictionary exist for US consumers. Also, if there is no wordtank, are there any pther electronic English/Japanese distionaries any of you suggest? Thanks.

Canon and Casio has the biggest range in electronic dictionary. You'll be looking for one with a multiradical kanji search. Some of the models I know that has multiradical kanji search are: Canon IDC-310, Canon IDF-3000, Canon IDF-4600, Canon V70, Canon V80, Canon G90, Canon V90, Casio Ex-Word XD-470, Sharp PW-M310, Sharp PW-M800.

The newer models are easier to use in that you use a stylus to write down the kanji, while older models will require you to know the strokes that makes the kanji.

Alternatively, getting a PDA and setting it up with a Japanese display/input software and installing various Japanese dictionaries in it may just be suitable for you. It's more work and fiddling, but once you get it set up and running, it's more flexible and versatile.
