"Mythbusters" did a program on this and concluded that yawning is not contageous. However, often the folks in the same room or area are all subject to the same environment that induces yawning - tiredness, too much CO2, warmth, lack of O2

Nobody knows for certain.
The main problem is that nobody is sure why we yawn at all. Many people believe we yawn because our bodies are demanding more oxygen. Others say we yawn because it is too warm in the room.
I don't know who's right, but I do know this: if its too warm or there's not enough oxygen around, not only do YOU want to yawn, so does everybody else in the room. So when you yawn, the power of suggestion is enough to trigger yawns in those nearby.
Until someone comes up with a better theory, I'm sticking with this one."
I believe that it all lies with the power of suggestion like the author of the above excerpt wrote. I also want to add to his temperature remark that I think it happens when it is both too warm or too cold.

From what I read, it says that it triggers a part of your brain that repeats the action seen. I always yawn when I read the word or see someone doing it. So maybe it is contagious. Let's just be happy farting and burping aren't.

Yes, it is. If you yawn and someone else sees you do it, they are bound to yawn also.

yawning is not contagious.People yawn due to lack of sleep and is about to sleep or when one is tired/exhausted.

Not really....but it sure as heck feels like it....Its the bodies reaction to relaxation or the need for sleep...good question though.
