I am trying to play some word games and it requires the installation of the Active X Control. I don't know much about computers at all so I want to know if it is ok to install this.

The active X control itself is a genuine product(i assume your D/l location is the correct one), but as a programming language it could potentially enable an outside source to alter/modify system/security settings.
If you d/l it, dont let code be executed automatically.

The shockwave player would only be safe if you downloaded it from www.adobe.com. Getting it from anywhere else could be risky.

Always download from the manufacturer's website, or as directed by the manufacturer.

Should be, it simply can't verify the source website of that download and is asking you to verify it. That's all.
