Actually, no, because they get the cheap, super-sweet kind.

The wine is rather sweet, because a lot of people do not like good wine - especially children.

However, rest assured that the wine is real. It is church doctrine that the wine has to have some alcohol in it and be made from red grapes. This is because Jesus, when he instituted the Eucharist at the last supper, used wine. It is so much more than a symbol. The Church teaches that the wine is the Blood of Christ and all catholics are required to believe this. If you do not believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist, you should not partake of it. "For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself" (1Cor. 11:29).

Well, first off, that wine is not always real wine. It is imitation wine. Like Martinelli's Apple Cider or something. You cannot get drunk off of it. Now, it was real wine at one time, but due to people that had alcohol problems, the wine was changed to imitation wine so that people could not get drunk off of it. I know this because the priest at one of the churches I went to was an alcoholic and the wine had to be changed in order to get him to stop drinking. Another reason was children. In the US, you have to be 21 to drink, so that means that the wine in the church had to become non-alcoholic to suit that rule. The whole point of communion is mostly symbolism. It is to symbolize the body and blood of Jesus. It is to symbolize how Jesus gave his body and soul for us to save us from ourselves. I was born and raised in the church and I love my religion. I do not always agree with what is taught, but I ask questions and deal with the answers given to me.
