For me it was until 14 but I was occasionally "threatened" with them until 16. I am mid 30s now..,with all this talk about social services and child abuse, is it really true people don't spank much any more?....that must be an interesting way to get raised.
It was very effective for me and I usually was not spanked more than 4 or 5 times a year (except for one phase when I was 10 where it was every few weeks or so). For me it was the hand, wooden spoon or belt, over a knee or over the bed, usually I had my jeans or undies on but it still hurt plenty and the point was made loud and clear! it was also very embarrassing by the time I reached 12 or so.

I was not abused by any means and deserved each and every one I got. In fact there were probably several I deserved but never got.

Unfortunately, no. Take a look around you and you'll see the result of it. You've got an entire generation of kids that have been ruined because they weren't disciplined when they needed to be.
Our society is so screwed up now, it's just going to get worse. A whole generation of "girls gone wild" daughters and good for nothin' bratty boys.
Spanking the kid is just another way of teaching them. And it's a damned good way too. It shows them that sometimes, the world can be a hurtful place. Kids today don't understand that. Personally I think they all need to be sent back to their parents to get the selfishness beat out of them. hehe.

Most modern parents still spank, but its underground stuff. If a child misbehaves in public, the parent may give a "look" and then save the spanking for home. There are children out there who needs a good spanking. For real.

I did spank my older boys who are now 20 and 18, I never spanked my now 10 y/o. The oldest got spanked the most, because nothing worked! It was the only way to get this attention. I know now that he had ADHD. I just don't think spanking worked. My 10 y/o is a great kid, smart on honor roll and doesn't give me trouble. I take things away, or talk to him about his behavior, and that has worked. I feel bad that I spanked my oldest and its not like I did it alot, but in the long run it did not help. I was spanked as a child, not alot but some times that is how my dad punished us, my mom never laid a hand on me. I did behave because I didn't want to be spanked, not cause it hurt so much, but because I didn't want to listen to my dads ********...bottom line, there are now better ways to deal with your child.

I was spanked until I was like 9. but yah like someone stated earlier after age 9-10 kids make up there minds not by the consequences of their actions but by what they want or think is right. So spanking a teenager is useless b/c instead of teaching them that what they did is wrong they will probably just be thinking how they can make sure they aren't caught next time.
And yes I know many parents that still spank their kids. It is a good form of discipline.

I think that most of today's problems with youths is due to lack of spanking. They government can say what it will, but most kids today have no respect and are taught in school that if a parent spanks, tell them and they will get you help. I spank my kids (Boys 8,5, 3 and daughter 12) and except for the preteen thing with my daughter, They are respetcful, say yes sir, no sir, ect. I think it is time for the parents to stop being friends to their kids and start being parents again. You cannot be both.

I have never heard of anybody really spanking lately.Maybe once I heard about it,but it is rare.My parents spanked but since I have had kids,oldest is now 22,youngest 11,...we never did spank our kids.I got the ruler on my bare hands once in High School for having no hall pass(went to get my purse out of last class),and that was traumatic.My Dad's belt wasn't as bad as that was.
P.s. ..if I were to have spanked ,it would have been for their own safety(as in no regards to traffic),or for disrespect,only!! I was blessed and never had these problems.)..could be because we discussed our expectations(drilled it) a lot.

I was spaked until i was about 8 or 9 with a wooden spoon but i really don't think it did me any good. It is fine to spank but just don't get carried away.

Only the successful ones.
However, if you spank a child and have nothing to teach after the pain subsides, it's child abuse. Spanking is ONLY a last resort tool to attain a child's undivided attention preparatory to teaching a life lesson worth the effort.

If needed yes, I spank my children. My parents spanked me until I was about 10 and it wasn't for minor things. I wasn't abused by any means and I did not fear my parents. It is time that parents take control back from their kids.

im 22 now and my parents spanked me until i was about 9 or 10. then came "YOURE GROUNDED!!!" and honestly i think i liked being spanked better. it hurt yeah but it was over quick! getting grounded for a month is no fun.
