We have chins to catch the drop of soup that spills whenever one dips the spoon into the bowl incorrectly...

It also serves as a foundation for our gums and teeth, as well as, a bottom for the mouth and tongue.

It comes in handy when one is doing 'chin-ups' or when one needs to 'keep one's chin up'. We would be doing neck-up otherwise...

It makes a nice place to rest one's cupped hand in a portrait...it provides work for the mandible (jaw)...the muscles in the area are used for smiling, frowning, and otherwise expressing ourselves in expressions instead of or in addition to words.

The bony protrusion that is our chin, as apposed to just having a jaw with no chin (like a cat or dog) helps strengthen our round jaw.

A square shaped jaw where the molars and insisors are more of a box is pretty strong, but we have an arch shaped profile, and the chin provides extra strength.

The chin is the outermost part of the jaw. The jaw holds the roots of our teeth and allows us to chew and digest food.
