It's illegal because it doesn't just affect you, but others including family, friends, passersby, and society at large.

If you put illegal drugs like crystal meth into your system and you become an addict, you are fooling yourself if you think you are the only one who is affected. That is a selfish and self-serving attitude.

Addicts need to constantly feed their addiction. They need money to do this. Since they usually can't hold down a well-paying job and are not exactly the epitome of stability, they have to get money somehow. This usually involves more illegal activity such as stealing or prostitution. The stealing can be from family, friends, neighbours, strangers, businesses, government, fraud etc. etc. It often involves violent crime, sometimes muggings and home invasions.

Then the addict needs medical treatment. Who pays for that? Well, in Canada, it's the tax-payer funded health-care system. So it affects society in that WE have to pay for the damage the addict has done to their health.

THAT'S WHY IT'S ILLEGAL. IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU!

I think it would obviously be the government more or less. You have to ask them for a number when you are born that is crucial for your existance. Also you don't own your car while we at what you own and don't own. The deed for a car is the manufacture statement of origin which the state government has. Ask yourself why do i pay for an "owner's card." Also you don't own your land either. The deed to your land is an Allodial Title and the only place to get this is Texas or if you owned your land before the Revolutionary War.

Overall the government owns your car, your land and you. The question now is what do you actually own.

It's not illegal to put certain substances in your body, it's illegal to possess these substances or hurt someone else while on them.

Because possession of those substances is illeagal. Also, those substances may affect your behavior, thereby making you a risk to the other citizens (the greater good). Laws are meant to protect a group, on average.

We are suppose to own ourselves but we don't.Like everything else the government owns most of us because anything we do wrong (to ourselves) we get punished for it.Same with committing suicide. If you fail at your attempt you get punished also. The other part of ownership is family because if one is concerned about what it would do to them (whatever you are doing) you won't do it. You'd think twice and more than likely stop.
Personally I don't think we should deliberately do harm to ourselves because life is precious so why junk it up with substances.

Welcome to life in a “society.” That is now things work when you want to live around other people. You do have the option of buying a boat, taking it to international waters, and popping all the pills and snorting all the coke you want and nobody will do a thing about it. Just don’t expect to be allowed to do it in a governed society without consequences.

Your government regulates such substances because they know so much better than you what is good for you.
Ask them, they'll tell you.
The American public is not to be trusted with an opinion, thus the all-encompassing regulations that dictate everything we do, from smoking dope to spitting on the sidewalk

Because some things may put the people around you in danger.

Because, with normal use, those substances make you hazardous to others.

Mainly because they'll have to rush you to the hospital if you die or something.
Some people actually care about others and rather than letting everyone die because they're destroying their body, people would rather just ban it all together.
