If you want to ripen the peaches more, you can store them in a paper bag in a cool, dry place. If they are already ripe, the countertop is ok, but they can go bad quickly. You CAN store them in the refrigerator, but that will cause a loss of flavor, texture, etc, but they will keep for a few more days.

NEVER - when they are placed in the fridge, they will NEVER
ripen, and they WILL get mealy.

Any fruit should stay on the counter, UNLESS, they are totally
ripe and you will use them - that way - the next day, THEN
put them in the fridge.

This answer for fruit will always be the same.

only in the fridge if you are not going to eat them right away. if not the counter is good if you want them to ripen more and be sweeter tasting
