Elizabeth, Lizzy, Betsy, and Bess, they all went together to seek a bird's nest. They found a bird's nest with five eggs in. If they all took one out, how many were in?

The question is asking "If they all took one out, how many were in." (meaning how many were in the nest after they all took one out) not how many were in originally so the answer is not 5.

It is a simple riddle but not so simple if you read it in a rush. Read in a rush then you will start subtracting. Did that happen to you? Yeah, simple riddles sometimes fool me too.

Answer is 5

There were 5 in there

There was 1 left if each took one

There was 4 if they jointly took one out.

One of these has to be right. Do I get the 10? Pleeeeese....
