USA Basketball can't play as a team anymore...the roster is chosen to sell shoes and not to win basketball game. Tyson is an overrated fighter who blew too many opportunities and too much money to count.
As far the poster who said that a young Ali would be face down against Tyson, my suggestion is to put down the crack pipe and study boxing history a bit more. Ali dominated Sonny Liston--arguably the "Mike Tyson" of his day twice--while still a young fighter. An in-his-prime Ali would have destroyed Tyson. Tyson's problem is that he's a bully--he's a tough guy until he gets hit. Once he got hit--first by Razor Ruddock, then by Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and even less impressive fighters like Danny Williams and Kevin McBride--he was exposed. A young Ali wouldn't have been afraid of Tyson, and could have easily outboxed him like he did Liston. Don't forget that we're talking about arguably the best heavyweight fighter in history here (I consider him best, some would make an argument for Joe Louis who I'd rank #2). Ali was never stopped inside the distance until very late in his career against Larry Holmes--unlike Tyson's early career diet of chumps, no bodies, over the hill champs, and guy's who belonged at other weight classes Ali was never KO'd against a "who's who" of boxing history: Liston, Frazier, Norton, Foreman, Leon Spinks, and a guy that most consider to be a harder hitter than Tyson (and arguably the hardest puncher in the history of the sport) Earnie Shavers. Tyson was an entertaining attraction for awhile, but all of those who continue to drink the Tyson kool-aid need to get some perspective: most serious boxing experts wouldn't even rank him in the top ten heavyweights of all time. That he'd somehow destroy Ali, Louis, Foreman, Frazier or any of the other alltime great heavyweights is absurd. Hard to even argue that he'd have a "puncher's chance" against a man who was never knocked out until long after he should have retired like Ali and went toe to toe with the fiercest puncher's in boxing history.
To put it back into the context of the original question, Ali was the original 1984 "Dream Team" with Bird, Magic, Jordan, Malone, Stockton, et. al. Tyson would be a good comparison with the current squad and I think you can guess how a game between the current team USA and a in-their-prime 1984 Dream Team would go...

Blown potential. Tyson had the natural ability to be champion for at least 3 years longer than he was. I think the US team had the potential to win it all. They didn't play to that potential and a better team beat them. Same with Tyson and Douglas. Unfortunately another similarity is bad sportmanship, I understand many of the US players refused to shake hands with the greeks after the game was over, and I remember the day after tyson got knocked out he went on national TV and claiming it wasn't fair because Douglas got a long count after being knocked down by Tyson.

Nothing. Iron Mike, despite everything, was still the single most feared boxer ever to walk this planet. If a young Mike could face a young Ali, Ali would be face down when the ref counted 10. USA Basketball is a bunch of rich kids who expects people to bow down to them just because. Tyson made you bow down by knocking out your teeth.
