God. I have a friend who was considering suicide at one point and claimed that no one would really miss him. That was about a year and a half ago and he has since become a born again Christian and even though he doesn't have many more friends than he did then, he sure sees the world through different eyes because he knows that regardless of whether or not he has any friends here he know that there is someone out there who loves him unconditionally. So next time a doctor tells you to tak the red pill four times a day and the purple pill twice and it might help, don't discredit him but try taking God in for a change, I'll tell you, if you truly believe and ask wholeheartedly, he may not cure you himself but he will put someone in your path that just might do what you asked God for.
Oh and if you feel you need guidance on this, call 1-800-525-5683 and ask to talk to a staff pastor, and feel free to go to klove.com and go to the prayer requests page, type up a prayer, and watch God work

The best treatment for depression is to understand and really internalize that depression is something that depressed people do to themselves, and that there is a way out. The way out is to realize that the only moment in which you can ever live is the present moment, right NOW. And for each successive moment of NOW you can choose, just for that moment, not to be depressed.
Depressed people like to live in the past with regrets or in the future with anxieties. They think about themselves constantly. I know. I was chronically depressed for decades. But when it really occurred to me at a deep level that in any given moment I can choose not to be depressed, but to be happy instead, just as if something wonderful had just happened to me, my depression completely and permanently went away.
But since many people won't or can't come to that realization, the next best treatment is medication. For me, at least, talk therapy was not only useless, it made things worse. And having a close relationship with someone wasn't helpful while depressed because depressed people push everyone away, unconsciously grasping desperately to their depression. It is just a habit, nothing more, a gigantic delusion about what is real. The only thing that is ever real is this current moment.

1. Try to walk at least 1 hour a day in daylight, even if it's overcast and raining.
2. Take 2 - 3 pills of St.John's Wort (hypericum perforatum) a day *takes ca 3 weeks to work, but is NOT addictive. Can also be taken as an infusion of the dried herb, 3 times 1 heaped teaspoon in a cup of boiling water, brew for 10 minutes.
3. Laugh and smile as often as you remember to.

the firststep is to see the Dr. as they may be some medical problem that needs treating other than the depression. Tell the Dr. how you feel and he can then make a professional judgement to your condition. Get out and about, join a gym etc.
With depression you tend to lose interest in everything, you need a buddy who has gone through the same thing to support you. Herbal tablets like St, Johns Wort are good to take to stabilize depression, you can get these at any chemist. But I do state, see your GP for proper diagnosis. Good luck....you are not alone.

It is different for different people. I think counselling by a professional is best, some people also have anti-depressants which can be quite good these days. The best thing is to go to your doctor and say how you are feeling. Hopefully you will get some support. If you don't get anywhere, try http://www.metanoia.org/ or http://www.bacp.co.uk/ and click on 'search for a therapist'. If you feel very down and suicidal, visit http://www.samaritans.org/.

depression is a hard one, councelling or chatting to a friend with a good ear is sometimes enough, others rely on anti depressants from the doctors to get them through it but i would leave medication as the last resort, talking about why you feel depressed, finding the root of the problem and going from there.
