Peer pressure comprises a set of rules for a group of people in which one feels comfortable which may override the personal habits, individual moral etc.
Peer Pressure often carries a negative connotation, in particular as it relates to adolescents being persuaded to partake in potentially behavior disapproved of by parents, such as drug and alcohol use, and skipping school. Although the causes of such events are hotly debated, peer pressure is also considered by many to be the root cause of several recent tragedies in the United States involving young people.
Research says that 87% of America’s youth face at least one negative peer pressure situation daily whether to talk in class during the teacher’s lecture, copy homework, fight, gossip, skip a class, lie to parents about the real destination, drink alcohol, or other misbehavior, dares, or pranks.
It is possible for parents and friends to help to overcome the negative effect of the peer pressure.

Peers influence your life, even if you don't realize it, just by spending time with you. You learn from them, and they learn from you. It's only human nature to listen to and learn from other people in your age group.
Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system, or someone on the soccer team taught you a cool trick with the ball. You might admire a friend who is always a good sport and try to be more like him or her. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite book, and now everyone's reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other every day.
Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them, your soccer friend might try to convince you to be mean to another player and never pass her the ball, or a kid in the neighborhood might want you to shoplift with him.

It's when your peers pressure you to do something. It can be bad (wanting you to start smoking) or good (wanting you to talk to a boy that they know you like).

Friends(peers) trying to get you to do something that is out of your character and upbringing. Something that goes against your beliefs.
