The 1850 census suggested his age was 4. So most likely he was born in 1845 or 1846.

I found this on the LDS 1880 - looks like the wife and kids are somewhere else.

Household:

Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Newell BEEMAN Self M Male W 35 NY Superintendant Of Coal Mine NJ NY
Anne BEEMAN Wife M Female W 29 IL House Keeping ENG FRANCE
Edna BEEMAN Dau S Female W 5 WY NY IL
Nettie BEEMAN Dau S Female W 3 NY NY IL
Oscar LUDWIG Other M Male W 40 NY Bookkeeping, Boarder PA PA

Source Information:
Census Place Uinta, Wyoming

He is the only LUDWIG in the county. There are just 2 in all of Wyoming.

1870 United States Federal Census > Nebraska > Douglas > Omaha

Ludwig, Oscar, 31, Bookkeeper, NY
----, Mary M, 23, keeping house, Ohio
----, Marybelle, 3, Illinois
Nealy, Emma, 12, Dom. Serv., Sweden

1900 United States Federal Census > Illinois > Cook > Chicago Ward 32 > District 1011

Ludwig, Oscar, head, Nov 1849, m. 35 years.NY, NY, NY
----, Mary M, wife, Jan 1847, bore 4 children, 1 still living, Ohio, Vt, Ohio
----, William O., son, May 1873 Utah
----, Ethel M., daughter, Oct 1879, Wyoming,
Dixon, Arthur R. Grand C., Aug 189*, 5 yers old, Ill, Virginia, Utah

This doesn't make sense, but that is what it says. William and Ethel are single. One wonders if Ethel is really a daughter-in-law, which would make the 1 child still living entry for Mary accurate.
