You can't get an extension. And, if you don't renew by the due date you will have to pay a late fee.

No such thing as an extension. In some cases if your vehicle was being repaired and wasn't able to be driven, you can have the penalty for not renewing on time waived. In Oklahoma you have 30 days to pay without having to pay a penalty. I constantly hear from those who have been towed for having expired plates "I have 30 days to get my plates." No, you have 30 days to pay with penalty, but when your plate is expired, it's expired. You have taxes due the state and the only way you are getting your car is to put a current sticker on it.

Depends on where you live.

Here in Nevada there is no grace period and the only way to get an extension is if you are unable to drive it, in which case you need to get a temporary registration, otherwise you will be penalized for registering late.

No. They don't do that. You must renew it before it expires, or park your car until you renew it.
