I'm selling furniture on craigslist and EVERYONE wants street by street directions how to get to my house. Why don't they just use Yahoo or Google Maps? Obvious, they have a computer if answered my online ad.

I've had the same problem. And directions from MapQuest are a whole lot more reliable. If they took my directions, they'd wind up three cities away!

I cannot answer to why they dont use Yahoo or Google Maps per se, but I DO know that MapQuest is a terrible source of directions. I would never assume to use Mapquest if there was an alternative. Perhaps your potential buyers think you can give the most accurate directions.
Besides, home computers or not, people are just lazy!

I don't always trust on line maps. I've printed out directions then followed them to the letter only to find out there was a different street name, construction, or the directions are just wrong.

It's the same as remarks about the weather such as 'Oh dear, it's raining' when everyone obviously knows it's raining cos their all running for cover. People just enjoy communicating, and asking the way is one way of doing that and politely getting to know you at the same time.. try to enjoy these little oddities of human nature, these little interactions which make us human.. don't let the machine take over completely.eh? It's been a beautiful day!

Some people don't trust those online maps, and some people may just not think to use them.

A lot of people complain about Mapquest, but honestly, I have never had any problems with it.

Because the online maps usually do not show street closings or shortcuts that might affect reaching your house.
