My brother in law is driving me crazy! When we visit my grandparents he lets his kids run wild (yes my sis too), and he encourages his kids and my kids to wrestle with him in the living room. My grandpa is very nervous, he's 87, and he cringes everytime the kids screech and hit the floor. I tell him over and over to stop but he acts like he's five and stops for a minute and then starts again. My five year old, who loves my brother in law knows better then to wrestle with him at grandpa's because I warn him before we go...but my 18 month old just doesn't understand...he's confused by me telling him one thing and my brother in law doing another...it is driving me and my grandparents crazy. i try to visit at seperate times but occasionally it's impossible. Idon't want to make my Brother in law angry, but how can I get him to stop...should I just lay down the law...
by the way he is 8 years my senior! And his two girls are the awful ones I wrote about before!

Please help

I've tried the "alright kiddo's, we only wrestle outside or in the basement"
"John, don't you think maybe you and the other kids should do that somewhere else?"
He's not getting it!!!!!!Drive me Crazy! (it's a short trip!)

this is highly irregular, most men his age act like they are 15, possible he has issues and needs medical attention.

I'm guessing your brother in law just likes having fun with his niece and nephew but he doesn't understand that it's not something you approve of. Maybe you can take him aside when both of your kids are busy and tell him you believe the behaviour that your kids learn at this age is very important and it sticks for a good little while. And you do not want your children to grow up with violence in the house, even if it's for fun. Good luck.

You need to set some ground rules. Say, "John, your dad is too old for this. Take it outside." Tell your father [in law?] that he needs to say to his son/ daughter that he's tired of them not respecting him. ANd tell your five yearold that it's not a good thing to wrestle, he could really get hurt (although I'm sure that "John" won't ever think of hurting your son) so he knows. Your 18-month old shouldn't be wrestling, anyway. It only takes 3 lbs. of pressure to break a baby's arm .Tell John that.

Doesn't sound like your brother-in-law is hurtful. Sounds more like he just likes to have a good time - a lot of the time. Nothing wrong with that.

If your grandparents get upset with his behavior, it really is up to them, not you, to point that out.

I can't speak for your family, but the older my relatives get - there are no words that they spare on us. Actually, it's kind of funny.

Maybe, you should just try to forget it. Everyone is different.

Yes tell it to him straight. He needs to be respectful of your grandparents and of the way that you choose to raise your children .Tell him that there is a time and place for rough housing and your grandparent's house just isn't it.

telling him isnt going to change him, its just gonna make him angrier... some people just dont get it ... you can try to talk to him but add some jokes to lay it down soft ... like ( ok kids . lets just all have some quiet time now..) or some thing like that .. he will get the drift ...

It's up to your sister to tell him to stop. If she won't, you will have to protect your grandpa. It sounds like your BIL is purposely trying to cause problems.
