Dear sub,

there is no evidence that even suggests that Jesus ever married. The DaVinci Code is a fictional book that is actually quite historically inaccurate- it makes for great drama but not for good theology or truth.

the passion of the Christ does have some biblical basis to it-- particularly regarding the historical cruelty of crucifixion.

Hope that helps,

Nickster

No absolutely not... The Passion of the Christ was farely accurate but the Davinci Code is nothing but fiction. Jesus did not marry. He did not have children. His purpose in coming to earth as the Son of God would not have worked ... that is, the salvation of lost souls by becoming a sacrifice. Most people don' really understand why Jesus came to earth. They don't understand the Jewish system, the laws, or how Christ became the fulfillment of the law. It was necessary to redeem the human race. He did just that.

The Da Vinci Code: Fiction based on fiction

Error #6: Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.

The New Testament never mentions Jesus being married or even suggests it, so Brown uses one of the Gnostic gospels, the Gospel of Philip to support this claim. We only have fragments of the text he uses as his support and that text reads as follows:

“And the companion of the…Mary Magdalene…her more than…the disciples…kiss her…on her…” (Philip 63:33-36). Philip 58-59 seems to indicate that the kiss would have been on the lips. In 1 Corinthians 16, Paul mentions this kind of chaste kiss of fellowship, and this is likely what is meant here. However, we need not rest on that argument.

The protagonist in Brown’s book claims that the word “companion” in this verse actually means spouse because that’s what the Aramaic word really means. I kind of feel sorry for Brown here. This document wasn’t written in Aramaic. It was written in Coptic. The word used for companion is koinonos and it means companion, not spouse.

There isn't one shred of evidence—not one—to support this idea. The book you were reading is fiction—and that's exactly what this idea is: fiction.

Nowhere in the Bible (or in any other Christian writing after Jesus' ministry) is there any hint at all that Jesus was married. For example, His closest relatives and disciples came together at the cross as He was dying—but no wife is mentioned, as she would have been if He had been married. Jesus' sole concern then was for the welfare of His mother (see John 19:26-27).

This isn't to say that Jesus disapproved of marriage—not at all. In fact, His first miracle took place at a wedding, to which He had been invited with His mother and some of His disciples (see John 2:1-11). God gave marriage to us, and Jesus spoke often about the joys and responsibilities of marriage. Most of the earliest disciples were married, including Peter (whose mother-in-law was healed by Jesus—Mark 1:30).

Jesus came into the world for one reason: to die for our sins on the cross. Don't be misled by myths that might turn you away from that great truth. Instead, make sure of your commitment to Him, for "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree (cross), so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness" (1 Peter 2:24).

Why on earth are you getting your information from Hollywood movies - the least reliable source on the planet.

There is no evidence one way or the other. So, since Mrs Jesus is never mentioned anywhere I've seen,(with the exception of some not particularly good fiction) I reckon she never existed.

NO, THIS IS JUST BLASMOPHEY THAT THEY FOUND A BUNCH OF SCROLLS FROM NOT EVEN THAT TIME PERIOD, OR COULD POSSIBLY HAVE ANY LINK, THAT SOMEONE MADE UP, BACK THEN ALOT OF PEOPLE FABRICATED THINGS, JUST AS TODAY, A MONEY MAKING THING TODAY.
JESUS WAS PERFECT WITHOUT A SPOT, HE HAD TO BE SO THAT HE COULD BE A FINAL SACRIFICE FOR ALL OUR SINS.
THE PURPOSE WHY JESUS WAS HERE, WAS NOT TO FILL HIS PERSONAL AGENDA, BUT GODS PROPHESY.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THAT MOVIE CREATED BLASMOPHEY IN THE EYES OF GOD, AND HAVE BRUNG ABOUT DOUBT IN MANY PEOPLE., PEOPLE SHOULD BE GROUNDED IN THE TRUTH. IT IS THE ONLY WAY.
