Who Created Evil?

The university professor challenged his students with this question: Did God create everything that exists?" A student bravely replied "Yes, he did!" God created everything? the professor asked. "Yes sir," the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then God is evil."

The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?" Of course”, replied the professor. The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?" The
professor replied "Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider as cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body, or matter, have or transmit energy. Absolute zero ( 460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat. Cold does not
exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat.

The student continued. "Professor, does darkness exist?" The professor responded, “Of course it does”. The student replied, “Once again you are wrong, sir. Darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors, and study the various wavelengths or each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn”t this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present.

Finally the young man asked the professor. "Sir, does evil exist?" Now uncertain the professor responded, “Of course, as I have already said. We see it every day. It is the daily example of man’s inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil”. To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God’s love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.” The professor sat down.

The young man's name was reported to be Albert Einstein.

This is a false urban legend: http://www.snopes.com/religion/einstein.asp

My comment: It's the standard, overused template for promoting the writer's thought system. The thought system that needs to be attacked is represented by a character that is one-dimensionally smug and proceeds along the writer's fantasized scenario where he unwittingly is led into a logically inescapable trap, elegantly and superbly laid by the hero (who represents the writer’s thought system). The end is always the 'hero' completely vanquishing the 'opponent' with this seemingly masterful and genius logic, thus exposing the logically apparent flaws in the thought system of the 'opponent'. In this case, it's Einstein. In other examples, it's a military guy who masterfully outwits some smug intellectual or it’s god who outwits scientists.. All the same stuff. Boring and trite.

This is the standard theology of all Christian sects. There is no absolute evil. Satan is good in so far as he is meant to test the beievers, and help them see how much of the divine they have realized.

On the other hand, Albert Einstein was not a believer in a personal deity, so the concept of heart being filled with God's love seems unlikely to have come from his mouth.

Well its logical but God created everything, Evil presents.

EVIL ONLY COME INTO BEING IF YA DISOBEY GOD.
ya are right that if ya love God ya will never disobey God. But evil is still there, who created that Evil.

God created ManKind as the best of his creation, because Men is the Only Creation of God who has given a Free will. Man can Choose God and he can choose Devil, DEVIL Disobeyed God. Man has a will to choose Good or Evil ,Man has a choice to choose Hell or to choose heaven. thats why we are the best of his creation we Got a Mind.

I am not sure about the cold argument in your cute little story, but I would argue that darkness is in fact the absence of VISIBLE light. When we perceive darkness there is in fact light all around us that we cannot see. Therefore I would argue that darkness indeed exists, it is just a state of affairs that is different from the condition that we call light.
So you see you have a confused argument, in your story, which is designed to confuse the gullible, told by one who may be confused, & gullible.

Well you had me, until evil is the result of God's absence from the heart. Are you saying that all atheists are evil? Are all Christians good? No to both questions!

Evil was not created but is a genetic flaw.
It is probably a leftover mutant gene that helped the caveman protect his home and gave him the urge to kill to survive.
Inbreeding and abnormal brain functions can be proven to cause paranoia and bi -polar disorders.
A brain with no conscience doesn`t know what evil is .
It just does what it feels like doing.

According to the Bible, God did create evil... He created Satan didn't he? He created the forbidden apple, didn't he? He created temptation... And evil is not an absence of God. It is an absence of Good.

Wow. An idiotic story, completely made-up, ending with a lie.

Albert Einstein never did any such thing.

Why are these lies so popular among people trying to defend their false religious beliefs? When you post these, you really make your religion seem dishonest.

Hey, Bill, nice response. Yes, there is a "template" here for this kind of false argument, isn't there?

I agree there is no such thing as "evil". However, evil is a form of ignorance, i.e., the absence of knowledge that a thing is wrong — not an absence of "God".
