Was the theif on the cross saved as we would be saved today as yet Jesus was not glorified.and Jesus said he would be in paradise as in sheol or abrahams bosom,NOT TO HEAVEN.in John 3:5 Jesus himself declared you MUST BE born again of water and spirit fortelling of what we must do to be saved in the CHURCH age. So for the evangelical christians who believe that you dont have to be baptized to be saved you have false docterine. Paul himself was baptized and he received his gospel from Jesus christ himself and told others that they must be baptized Acts 19:2-4

I believe that baptism is necessary, but I believe the thief is either in heaven or will go there. Remember, he lived and died as a Jew. Christians cannot claim the salvation of the thief on the cross because Christianity was not yet available to him. Christ had not fulfilled the old law at the time of his death.

Dear Holy ghost,

sheol and abraham's bossom are a holding place for those before Christ comes to claim them. See 1 Thessalonians when Christ returns- the dead in Christ shall rise first. They are still going to heaven because they have trusted in the righteousness of Christ.

ephesians 2:8-9 says for by grace we have been saved (not by baptism). it is a gift of God not as a results of works. Baptism is a work. It is very important for the believer to be baptized out of obedience to Christ.

Even if your assertion that the theif ont he cross was in Abraham's bossom, in that story there were those on the other side who longed to be on the other side (in Abraham's bossom).

Yes i can't understand why someone saved would not want to be baptized- but baptism is not a requirement for salvation.

Hope that helps,

Nickster

JESUS was still alive on the cross at the time.I believe any thing that came out of his mouth was done. HE did say (THIS-DAY) you shall be with me in Paradise,He could forgive that man Right then and right there., that man knew who he was, why else would he ask CHRIST to remember him. The man had pro ably been baptized by JOHNS baptism. ALL the region went to be baptized in some places. IS that man in paradise? YOU better believe it!!

When that thief told Jesus that Jesus did not deserve the punnishment he was getting, that the thieves themselves did deserve to die. Jesus told that one thief that today, he shall be in paradice with Jesus. This was salvation for that thief.

Faith is what is what is required for salvation. Baptism is a symbol of faith, and is what we use to inspire faith in infants.
