Ever since the Britian terrorist thing, I've felt less and less safe. I know that terrorists probably wouldn't take the trouble to blow up a domestic flight within the continental U.S., but I'm still scared... I never used to be so scared, and now, weeks before my flights, I daydream about what if I get blown up, what if this is the last time I'll see my mom, etc etc... Someone please convince me otherwise! I am losing sleep over this!

You're about 40,000 times more likely to be killed by a drunk driver on the way to the airport than every being a victim of terrorism. In the nearly 5 years since 9/11, exactly 5 Americans have died in the US as a result of possible terrorist activity -- the anthrax attacks. But somewhere around 200,000 have died because of drunk drivers!

Reality check time: None of us know when our time will be up. Roll with life and get the most out of it that you can. Heck, I might be dead 30 seconds after I send this message. But I'm NOT going to worry myself sick over it.

If we waste our lives worrying about the 'next' terror attack, we surrender to their desire to influence our lives. That's exactly what those scumbags want! Flip the bird to the terrorists and roll on with your life! They're no better than street thugs -- and statistically LESS dangerous!

As a private pilot, I do not blame you.

Commercial air travel has actually bothered me for a while, because no amount of security will ever be perfect. Somebody will always find a way to beat the system. But acts of terrorism are still an exception, not a rule.

That said, if we all started using Amtrak, the terrorists would start bombing trains, and we'd all be scared of them, instead of flying. Also, mass-media will report -every- single accident involving an aircraft accident. This is not true in automotive accidents. Think about it. Say you lived in San Fransisco, would you ever turn on the news and see as the top story being a car crash in Ohio killed 5 people? No. Why? Because more people have died, nationwide, in automotive accidents in 2005 than in all aircraft accidents in the past 20 years combined. But do you worry about being killed in your morning commute the same way? Probably not. Point is, flying is really the safest way to travel.

When your time on this earth is up, it's up. I doesn't matter if you are in a car, on a plane, at home eating dinner or hiding in your bombsheter.

If you want an alternative to commercial air travel, you could go out there and get your own pilots license, and fly yourself. Nobody will try to hijack a Cessna 172, and you will have an insiders look at what is actually going on, and the training involved for an Airline Transport Pilot, the next time you go to the airport for a commercial flight.

But understand, that will get costly. Av-gas is usually about 50%-150% more per gallon than what you pay for regular unleaded. Not to mention how much a small plane will cost if you wanted to buy or rent one.

Nobody in thier right mind would try to get on, let alone blow up a plane with liquid explosives considering the airportsecurity. Plus, most airplanes can survive the explosion that of a plastic explosive. There are only 4 small areas on the plane that could bring the plane down. A few years ago, a 747 flew back to an airport after someone attempted to blow the plane up. It is very hard to find these areas from the inside of a plane.

Hope this helps!

This is exactly what terrorists want. Don't let them get away with it.
On the other hand, I just don't like to fly because it's a big pain in the rear, but if I have to, oh well.. the fact is you never know how you will die so you might as well not worry about it. It might be an earthquake or a car accident.
Maybe you need to make peace with your Creator and let Him be in charge of your life because sooner or later you will die anyway. The bigger problem is not that you're losing sleep, but where will you spend eternity should something happen.

Flying is still the safest form of travel out there. I can fully understand your fear hon, but the chances of anything happening now are so slim. The security is so tight everywhere in every airport around the world. We cannot control our destinies, but by not flying your giving into your fears and that can keep you from the most wonderful experiences. By putting this out here you are on the right track. Talk with as many people as you can, let your mom how you feel. If it is that overpowering to you, mabey you could post-pone the trip until you have talked to a counsler or mabey go by bus or train. I'm so sorry things have made you feel this way, but you are certainly not the only one. Good Luck and may you be at peace with this soon hon.

Here's some tough love: You have to overcome your fears or they will rule your life. If you are afraid of flying then the terrorists already have claimed you as a victim. If you like living like a victim, then continue to be afraid, otherwise pull yourself together. Do you rule your life or do the terrorists? If you need to, talk to a counselor about your fears so you don't end up hiding in your room under the bed for the rest of your live.

You'll be fine- the changes of you getting in a car accident are more of a possiblity then the plane you're on blowing up by a wacky terrorist. Don't get me wrong, these terrorist are real creeps, but you have keep flying, if you don't ....you're letting them win.

there is numerous individuals who're terrified of flying yet crashes hardly take place. the proportion is so small that's sort of impossible! they have thousands and thousands of protection percossions in case there's a crash. attempt to no longer enable your worry bypass directly to others nonetheless, it could lead them to scared and would possibly no longer decide to bypass. in case you bypass on a plane convey your ipod with you to bypass time, there is mostly a action picture shown. additionally the touchdown and commencing up is often the extra severe yet after that that's tender. in case you get blocked ears, try sucking chocolates, it facilitates!

You have to accept your own mortality. Someday you will die. But I highly doubt it will be on a plane. Look into your inner self and ask a question, what do I need to do before I die to make my soul at peace. Then go do it. Tell your mom you love her. etc. Everyone that gets on a plane have some sort of anxiety over it. It's just most people can control and manage their stress. Good Luck...

Read these statistics and think about it:

Death by aircraft: 1 in 25 million
Death by falling out of bed: 1 in 2 million
Death by car: 1 in 5,000

More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes.

More than 2,500 left handed people are killed every year from using right handed products.

Only 3 people died in domestic commercial flights last year (http://www.ntsb.gov/aviation/Table1.htm)
