It is more than obvious in todays climate there there are mis-conceptions regarding the Islamic faith being branded around in every corner possible. It boils down to ignorance and intolerance.

OK, as a Muslim
1. Killing in the name of Islam is not allowed except for certain conditions, suicide bombing and blowing planes and places is not allowed or recommended by Islam.
2. Men are allowed four wives "as long as" thye can give them all equal rights, in the same verse Allah says, "which you can not". I still love to joke about this with my wife!
3. Women are not forced to cover their bodies/faces in a significant number of situations especially Mulism families in the western world, they do it because Quran describes this in a particular way and leaves it to us to interpret
4. Beards in men were preferred by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and this is why a lot of Muslim men like to grow and maintain one. Having a beard does not make a Muslim, an extremist.
5. Islam respects other religions and teaches its followers to teach others in general. Of course, like other religions, we believe that our religion is the right one and the final word from Allah.

A good thing to watch is Morgan Spurlock's (of Super Size Me Fame) show 30 days. In one episode, an all American Christian lived for 30 days as a Muslim.

How people react to Muslims affects me because my mom's family are Indonesian Muslims. They look just like anyone else (except for the asian tan). The only difference living in my mom's house was that they didn't celebrate Christmas because it was more of a Christian holiday.

It is not a religion of hatred. In fact they believe that Christians are brothers in their devotion to God.
