I've been literally searching for months for that perfect wedding invitation set or kit. I'm not in a huge rush so I'd like to find the right one. I'm willing to print, glue & sticker whatever necessary to have a high quality, heavy card stock, classic (formal evening wedding) invitation. I've got all the catalogs, I've been to Michael's, JoAnn's, Target, Wal-Mart, Office Depot, etc. I'd prefer something that's handmade "looking" in style.
The closest I've come to finding something I like (for an example) is Paper Prince. My ideal item is from Birchcraft, but it's from their "Handmade" line and it's over $800 for all the pieces!! Can't do that. I'd like to spend no more than $300ish for all pieces.
My colors are black, white & burgundy/wine.
Any suggestions?? Seen any great websites in your searching??
I know it's a challenging request, but it's my wedding, right? I just want to find that special piece. :) HELP!

This suggestion is a bit off of the wall, but if you are willing to put in some hard work you could get the "handmade" look by making them yourself.
Check out your local scrapbooking store, Archiver's is a nationwide chain (www.archivers.com). You can get all the supplies there. You might have to special order envelopes though (depends on where you go).
One more note about Archiver's (and a lot of other scrapbooking stores). If you have one in your area they offer classes on how to make things, like your cards, so you wouldn't be going in totally blind.
Sorry I couldn't offer more help.

I don;t know of a do it yourself place but I know site that will has the layered style invites in the colors you are looking for at a good price. AlsoI worked with them a ton for my wedding and I am sure if you ask them they will sell you them non-printed for a great price. Go to www.customweddingsolutions.com and click on their invites page. The ones I am referring to are called Toni and Olivia. Seriously ask them though if you want to print them yourself. They made some really great deals like that for me. Very helpful.

try Rexcraft.com They've got some of the most unique, and beautiful invites I've ever seen. They're so good, they've made me change my mind about the invites I had planned on months before! Also try, invitationsbydawn.com, willowtreelane.com, and AmericanWeddings.com (that last one I'm not sure if I got that name right). Good Luck & Congrats!

If you're doing your own invitations instead of having them engraved, you're already talking an informal, not a formal wedding.
Formal invitations are on white or ecru paper and engraved, and don't have frills or designs or colors or bows. Check crane.com for some classic examples.
