Here in the U.K. sentences do not reflect the seriousness of the crime,most of our judges live on another planet and only come down to give unrealistic prison terms

Yes but there isn't much they can do. Jails are already overcrowded. Everytime they try to build new jails, the residents of those towns complain about having a jail in their area. The Governments just can't win.
