I can't think of a time that it would be appropriate for a student to date a teacher. It doesn't sound like depression, but tantrum. Make the rules and enforce them. If you are talking about a college age student, then it is probably their decision.... unless you are paying for their schooling, in which case you have to decide if you are still making certain rules they must abide by. I hope things go well for you both.

There are some things that are just simply not a good idea and dating a teacher is one thing a student must stay away from! Any teacher who allows this is asking for big, big trouble. It's normal for students to have crushes on teachers but it's never ok for a teacher to allow anything of a personal nature to interfere with his/her role as authority figure. If your child is a student you must refuse to allow this. Who is your child afraid of being rejected by? If it's the teacher, I sincerely hope the teacher would reject such a thing because not only is their career on the line, so is their reputation and their freedom from prison time!

Explain that it is normal to have a crush on a teacher, many kids do, but actually dating the teacher is wrong because the teacher is much older and in a position of authority. Even explain that the teacher could go to jail for it. Express your sympathy for your child's feelings. Help him or her find other things to focus on. If necessary, get counseling too.
