Well, my neighbors across the street have 3 pits. 2 are pups about 5 months old. The other is a $3,500 blue male. They think that Sugar, one of the pups, has parvo. They brought her to the vet and I think the vet thinks it's parvo. They said she's had bloody stool and urine and she's skinny. I don't know if they know that the only way to disinfect parvo infected areas is to clean it with bleach water. And if the dog's been using the bathroom in their yard and around the other dogs, then their whole yard could be infected... They keep asking for our old kennel that's in my back yard b/c they need it to put either her or Haze (blue pit) in. But we had already promised it to a guy next door. That was about a month ago and he still hasn't gotten it, so my mom said she'll just give it to the family with the pits. But I'm worried that if she comes into our yard to get it, she could be dragging the virus from her yard into our yard from her shoes or something.

And I don't want to go inot their yard to go tell them they can have it b/c I don't want the virus to get tracked onto my shoes or hands, and then I'd go play with my dogs and pass it to them. Is there any way I can tell them or they can come and get it without the parvo being tracked to my house?

Well, my 7-8 month old pup is vaccinated. Does the shot prevent them from getting it, or just lessens the symptoms if they /do/ get it? I also just got a black lab about 2 weeks ago. I rescued her from my friend's family who payed no attention to her and she was REALLY skinny. They were going to bring her to the pound, and I couldn't let her die. So, I took her. I don't know if she was vaccinated against it when she was smaller, but she's about 1 1/2-2 years old now. And we didn't get her to the vet yet. We're still trying to get a bit of money for a check up...

parvo can stay on concrete for months, your best protection is for your dogs to be vaccinated.

The vaccination should prevent it but if you do go into their yard to take them the kennel, have a spray bottle of fairly strong bleach water to spray down your shoes before entering your house. Make sure that you wash your hands really well too. I used to work in a vet clinic and that's what we did when we had to work with parvo dogs. It would be a good idea to get any dogs you have into the vet for a vaccination as soon as possible, though.

You need to be very careful. Parvovirus is contagious, and in a lot of cases it can be a killer. If you do want to give the kennel to this person, make sure it is you that goes round there. At least that way, you can make sure that your shoes are disinfected before you set foot into your house or garden. If needs be, take your shoes off before you enter your property, just to be on the safe side. At least that way you will not bewalking pavovirus into your property!
It is very sensible to have your dog vaccinated against Parvo. It really is not a nice illness for your dog to get.

Have your dogs been vaccinated for Parvo? That's the best way to protect them. I don't know if Parvo can live on lawns, shoes, etc, but if you're at all concerned about your dogs getting this, you need to steer clear of the parvo dogs and their house. Don't let them borrow the kennel. The health of your dogs is more important than visiting or borrowing/selling things to the neighbor. If they can pay that much for a dog, they should be able to buy a kennel if it needs it.

If your dogs have been vaccinated they wont get it one of the first shots a dog gets is the one for parvo. If your dogs are adult & not vaccinated then there is little chance this will happen from your shoes touching her yard.

take the kennel and leave it in front of their house, don't go on their property and don't touch their dogs, parvo is deadly and contagious, you can carry it on your clothes and shoes and it can live on the ground for a long time don't let any of them come to your house and take your dogs for shots immediately
and talk to your vet about any other precautions you can take

I believe it can go airbourne, so eliminating physical contact won't neccessarily do it. Vaccination your own dogs is the best bet.
