I have taken 8 lessons now, and i have managed to:
drive the car,
go up to 3rd gear,
reversing into a road once,
3 point turn in road 3 times
turning right into roads
Driving in a main road

Thats it, she keeps telling me that im progressing fast, but it doesnt seem like that to me at all - she isnt private, she's part of a School so the money i give her goes to the school and she has a fixed wage....so what's happening here - am i being cheated, and how?

If you feel you could do more sooner, then yes you are being cheated
Change to a different instructor

Yes. Either you are being swindled or you do not have a good instructor- end result is being cheated regardless. To solve this dilemma first do some homework on the school and see if you can find any ratings on them via the web & check them out with the Better Business Bureau.

If you feel that it's the instructor and not the business cheating you, talk to the school. Try to get a partial refund for your money and a different instructor. If you want to learn to drive you have to get in the practice and get out on the open road. After 8 lessons you should have spent at least 2-3 hours driving on the highway, practiced parallel parking for an hour, did an hours worth of k-turns & related stuff like that etc.

Good luck. Try your best. If you don't get what you want, try another school.

we all learn at different rates, and the lesson are planned to teach you something then re enforce what you have already done.
there is more to driving a car just going along a road.
your lessons are mixed so that you have few different things to do, and can improve on things each lesson.
when i learnt to drive i was using my father 626 Mazda and nission micro of the school of driving, at the same time, doing different roads for driving because each had their own plan for me.
i have also done my advanced driving that is physical and mental exhausting as learning to drive, i think you are doing well, be patient with your teacher, you are just starting out, i hope you will be able to use another car for practise.

You're being jerked around. You should've done most of that in your first two lessons. You should be reversed around left and right corners a few times each lesson, you should be doing a hill start each lesson (maybe even twice a lesson).

Upshot is - you should be driving around different areas to get practise at different situations, including some nighttime and motorway practise. You should've gotten into fifth by now, at least for a few minutes.

Everyone learns at different rates.
Do you feel ready to learn more?
I am a Driving Instructor and i have pupils who can do way more than you have at 8 lessons - and some who can't!
If you aren't happy - change Instructors!

By the way - tha AVERAGE number of lessons taken in the UK to pass is about 43 - source DSA (Driving Standards Agency.

you are better off going with a private instructor, the ones who work for a driving school get told how fast to teach you to make more money, in my first lesson i had gone thro all the gears and by lesson 10 i was ready for my test

Why do you think she is cheating you ?
Is it because you think that she does not like you ?

It takes much more to drive a car properly than just the tehnical things, you need to have an insight in traffic so that you can anticipate what is going to happen around you

To gain this insight, 8 lessons are not sufficient

comprende ?

Not being big headed but after 12 lessons I was ready for my test. Most people i know took tests after 10 - 15 lessons. Except my brother who took 30!

You are doing great, now it is time to mess with the driving teacher. get in the car with your teacher, floor it, change lanes aimlessly with no turn signals, then drive in the fast lane at 35 miles per hour and call someone on your cell phone. Congratulations, you have just became a certifiable licensed driver.

you can't get out of driving course 100% good
i think this school has done good so far
and now it's your turn to go on your own, and one by one things will get much easier for you
trust me i've been thru the same,
when i took my 6 lessons course i tried driving on my own in calm roads, and then to more crowded and so on
now I'm pretty good

go on girl, you've just passed the hardest step

I think lessons are one side and practise is another. And your age is something important is well. For different people different times. But.. I don't want to drive near you for a while. especially at the big roundabout at the rush hour )
